Exam Week Means Easy-ish Week

Printer-friendly version
This week has been exams week for the students.  Just like last semester, the exams week means two things.  Exausting first half of the week.  Cake the second half.

The first half od the week is spent doing the "speaking test" with each and every student.  What does that mean?  It means asking each student individually, two basic questions and grading them on their ability to answer.  I'm in a middle school, so there are three grades.  Each grade has their own questions.  This is by far the most tiring activity during the whole semester.  You would think that it would be easy, but to sit and ask students the same 5-10 questions over 400 times is very exhausting surprisingly.  I actually have to do this activity every period of the day, except lunch, so there is no rest for the weary.  Because I can't possibly finish all the students from each class within that one period, there is always carry over - using any possible chunk of available time during the day.  I find my self actually falling asleep after lunch right in the middle of some of the questions.

All that said, it is actually one of the funnest activities too.  I set up two desks facing each other out in the hallway.  Five scraps of paper between me and the student, folded.  The numbers 1-5 written on each.  It's funny to watch each student walking down the hall towards the desk like it is some death sentence.  They are so nervous, but laughing at the same time.  Each student has their own unique personality so it is really entertaining for me.  Some of the students actually make me laugh out loud even though I'm trying to keep my composure.  It's really good stuff.

The second half of the week is when students sit for their exams.  Like mid-term exams.  That is going on right now.  It's 9:22 am and they are all testing.  Hence, the chance to write a blog about it all.  I love this new life.  I mean it.  I really do.

Lunch with teachers at noon, then I go home.  Like Ronald McDonald, I'm lovin' it!
