the beach

Look closely at the map, we stayed as north as you can go on the East Coast. The Korean Tourism site recommends a particular minibak for foreigner travelers, which is quite funny because getting there is like finding a piece of gold in a muddy stream. We took several buses, seeing more camouflage and good-looking Korean military the further we went. Finally being dropped off in front of an arcade/grocery story, a older man called the minibak, and a suspicious looking black van came and picked us up. We safely arrived at our minibak which was surrounded by farm land, near and around absolutely nothing else. It was wet, we were wet, dry enough at one point to explore the barbwire beach. We meet some funny foreigners who followed the same Korean Tourism advice, we played word games, and enjoyed the rainy night. It was a unique experience, and I really enjoy being in the middle of nowhere, so it was all fine by me.
