Bangkok, Thailand

May 11 - 21, 2017

I’ve had some really good times in Bangkok in the past - and it still doesn’t disappoint. Such a great city! Depending on where you stay and what you do, it feels like a completely different place each time.

If you’re flying AirAsia, you’ll fly into Don Muang Airport. It’s worth it to wait in line for a taxi in terminal 1 (in the section closest to terminal 2). The fee from the airport is ฿50 + tolls + meter, or take an Uber for a bit more. Depending on where you’re going to, during 2 hours of bad traffic the ride cost me ฿681, and another time it was super quick and only cost ฿380.

This time, I stayed in a variety of places; D&D Inn on Khaosan Road ($34.42/night), iCheck inn Sukhumvit Soi 11 ($26.80/night), Business Inn Sukhumvit 11 ($17.90/night), C U Inn Bangkok Chatuchak ($43.47/night), Nantra Sukhumvit 39 Hotel ($25.49/night), and Centre Point Silom Hotel ($80.31/night).

Some fun things I did this trip:

  • Went to the Chatuchak Weekend Market, which has 15,000 booths to shop. Seriously, just rows and rows of vendors. Afterward, I had a nice walk in the park nearby.
  • Drinks at sunset at Distil (Lebua at State Tower) are seasonal and delicious. Of course the view was perfect.
  • Ate at the Hajime Robot Restaurant, where a robot served us hot pot and danced to K-pop music for ฿349 (buffet). Was worth a few laughs, but probably won’t return. Restaurant was empty so might not be open the next time I visit, though.
  • My boyfriend had a nice cashmere/wool suit and three shirts custom made for ‎฿12,000 at New Armani.
  • I booked a Historic Bangrak Food Tasting & Culture Tour (9:35 AM to 1 PM) for ฿1,150 a person, which my mom absolutely loved. We had a wide variety of food and we were able to ask questions to a friendly Bangkok local (Sai).
