Are You Ready for Hawaii Five-O?

This week kicks of the new television season with Hawaii Five-O and a host of other shows.  It looks like the networks are throwing a lot of different things out there and the one we’ll be watching is Hawaii Five-O, which stars Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park.  You can tell CBS is bullish on this show with the heavy promotions they’ve been running on TV and in print.  It’s also obvious that from the advertising and promos that both Daniel and Grace will have significant roles and so we’re excited to see two Koreans, male and female, in a prime time network show.  For those who are too young to remember (post-70′s), Hawaii Five-O is actually a remake of a television series from the 70′s.  The title is based on the fact (according to wikipedia) that Hawaii was the 50th state.  And this whole time I thought it was a police reference.

Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim are coming off of very successful television shows.  Grace Park is obviously known for her Maxim lingerie spread (amongst the testosterone audience) but she’s actually had a consistent flow of work with recent shows: The Cleaner, The Border and of course Battlestar Galactica.  It’s rather interesting (and scintillating) to see that the promos they have for Grace are of her coming out of the Pacific Ocean in her bikini.  I’m sure the director did over 50 takes on that one.  But if you don’t know, Grace is in her mid-30s and she validates what we all know about Korean women…. they age damn well!   And our fine actor Daniel Dae Kim gets to keep his home in Hawaii since LOST was filmed there previously.  Daniel got lucky with not having to deal with relocation issues.  At least in this series, he’ll get to speak English without an accent so we don’t have to listen to him speak with an accent in Korean and in English like he did on LOST.  That ain’t easy easy to do but he pulled it off and he’s a better actor for it.  I’m looking forward to seeing Hawaii Five-O and I do hope it survives the onslaught of competition during this new season.  Cue the music!
