이 (爾) "The Clowns" by Kim Tae Woong premiered in 2000 and is today considered one of Korea's most famous dramas. Awards include: Best Play by the Dong-a Ilbo newspaper; Best Production by the Organization of Korean Theaters; and Best Play by the Seoul Arts Festival. Mr. Kim was lauded as one of the year's best playwrights by the Korean Critics Circle and the Organization of Korean Theaters. In 2005, his play was made into a motion picture (titled "King and the Clown") and was the country's third highest-grossing film with over 12 million tickets sold.

The Busan English Theatre Association will be producing the world premiere English translation by Will Kern of "The Clowns" at the end of June and beginning of July.

We are looking for actors, acrobats, clowns, comedians, drummers, and more. No previous acting or acrobatic experience is necessary!
IF YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT, we would love to see it! Traditional Korean drummers and other performing artists are highly encouraged to apply.

Auditions will take place at the Busan Cinema Center (behind Shinsegae, station #206 on the green line). Directions, with pictures, will be pinned in the event page.

NOTE: Two of the lead roles are also clowns, so these roles will only be available to actors who attend both Acting and Clowning auditions.

CLOWNING/OTHER auditions:
We have various roles for clowns and each MAY include acting, spoken comedy, acrobatics, and other performance if possible.
*If acrobatics, please bring a mat (ie yoga mat). 
**Please specify if you do NOT want a speaking role, or if you are interested in comedy but not acrobatics.

이(爾)는 2000년 초연된 작품으로 동아연극상 작품상, 연극협회 선정 베스트 5 작품상, 희곡상, 평론가협회선정 베스트 3 작품상, 서울공연예술제 희곡상 등을 수상한 바 있으며 영화 "왕의 남자"의 원작으로 잘 알려져 있습니다.

부산영어연극협회(Busan English Theater Association, BETA)의 이번 공연은 전세계 초연으로 6월 마지막 주, 7월 첫째 주말 공연을 예정하고 있습니다.

연극에 등장하는 다양한 장면을 연출하기 위해 여러 분야의 재능있는 분들을 모시고자 합니다:
* 배우, 무용수, 코미디언, 한국전통음악가, 광대, 재주넘기, 저글링 가능자 등
* 북, 장구 등 한국 전통 타악기를 다룰 수 있는 분 우대
* 연기 경력 무관
