In May 1973, members of the Korean Women's Club and a group of American Women led by the Commanding General's wife of the 19th Support Command met to organize a Korean-American Women's Club. The first meeting was held on September 20, 1973 with twenty women present. This group continued to meet monthly September through May until October 1991, when with a member of eighty (50 Koreans/ 30 Internationals), the Article of Association and the organization's name was changed to Daegu International Women's Association (DIWA) to reflect the organization's role as an international women's association with sister units in Seoul and Busan. DIWA presently has a membership of 160 ladies (100 Koreans/ 60 Internationals).

 

Who We Are and What We Do

The Daegu International Women's Association is a charitable, social, and cultural organization open to women living in the Daegu area of South Korea. At DIWA we encourage friendship, support, networking, and cultural exchange between and among our International and Korean members by organizing a wide variety of social and cultural activities. DIWA meets every fourth Thursday from September through May at 10:30 am at various luncheon venues around Daegu. We offer our members a number of classes such as: cooking, Japanese floral arrangement, Korean, Japanese, various crafts, oil painting, and attending events in and around Deagu.
