Busan Global Village is currently seeking 6-7 Full Time Teachers to join its international staff teaching kids through situational classrooms. Those seeking a traditional teaching job need not apply- our teachers focus on the "Fun" aspect of language acquisition through games and activities in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates would be able to start ASAP and have all the necessary visa documents ready.

Curriculum:

Here is where we really break from tradition. Our teachers' main job is to educate AND ENGAGE the students through our "situation-based" classrooms.  A few of these classrooms include a life-size airplane, a magic room, kitchen for cooking class, as well as a police station, hotel room, bank, and many others. Teachers are given a lesson plan for each of our experience classrooms made to fit our 40-50 mins class periods which they are free to adapt based on their ideas and the various levels of the students. Since each student group will only have each experience class once, essentially, teachers never teach the same group of students twice (with the exception of our summer camp time which we have the same students for 10 day camps).

Our Students:

Our students come to us primarily from the Elementary and Middle Schools of Busan for a two-day program of about 8-9 classes or “experiences”- immigration, orientation which teachers are expected to participate etc, per day. Teachers should expect to teach about 33-36 classes per week.

  About our Teachers:

  Highly flexible and energetic teachers really thrive in this environment. Prior teaching experience isn't required, but prior experience working with kids and study, work, or travel abroad time is certainly valued. This environment, however, does provide its teaching challenges as well; it takes a lot of energy to play games with kids all day long and people who like the aspect of teaching that allows them to really become close with their students might feel distanced from the long-term effects here since our time with students is so brief.

Our Class Schedule:

Our classes are 40 minutes in length with a 10 minute break in between classes. Teachers will teach, on average, 8-9 classes a day. The hours are: 8:45 to 5:50 with an hour lunch. Teachers are also expected to work 1-2 Saturdays per month (pending enrollment). Twice a year, we do our intensive language immersion camps (end of July and August; end of December and January). During the intensive language immersion camps the schedule is likely to be changed to accommodate the amount of students we have and the amount of teachers we have during that time as well. Teachers can anticipate working 10 hour days and the possibility to work 6 or 7 days a week during these times with any additional days per week (over 5) being given back to them either before or after camp season ends (6 weeks in total).

 
Salary and vacation time:

Starting salary is 2.1-2.3 (pending your qualifications) million won which is directly deposited in your account with any overtime at 18,000 won an hour. Teachers are given 10 days of vacation time per year and 5 days of "flex" time leave that they can use for sick or as vacation time as well. All that we ask is that that vacation time not be taken during our intensive course times (aka camp sessions) because scheduling during those times is already very difficult. We do contribute half of the pension and national health insurance costs and Unemployment insurance is available for those who plan on being in Korea for the long-term. We do arrange for a flight ticket home (or its cash equivalent) at the end of the contract as well.
