Uijeongbu Music Theatre Festival held every May in Uijeongbu, the city of culture and art, will be opened again this year of 2016 with the theme "Art & Humanity".
By going further than introducing and discovering various domestic and foreign music theatres with 'Humanity', we are going to make Uijeonbu city into a boisterous festival sight with various types of experiences, exhibitions and outdoor performances that everyone can enjoy.

1. THE WAR: Opening program
Commemorative work of World War1
Directed by Vladmir Pankov, the winner of Russia’s 2015 Golden Mask Prize
Director Vladmir Pankov produced which is based on Homeros’ , the oldest war record in human history, and a war novel by British and Russian authors. The play progresses with music, poems, and figurative objets. Harmony is made through not only the musical instruments and people’s voices, but also through actors’ cries and screams, and the audience can experience ‘War’ more vividly. The play also expresses the universality of war through familiar repertories like ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Scotland The Brave’.
Shocking wound of war reproduced through ‘sound’ and strong performance that stimulates the audience’s senses!

A story of two men locked in an airport
These days, millions of people go around the world through immigration, exile, trips, and etc. The borders are becoming more reinforced through new regulation methods and many kinds of problems have happened, but these are all being covered in exotic mood decorated with the lie called globalization. is a piece that sheds light on the relationship of two foreigners who were locked in the airport and got to live together with unique choreography techniques.

A love story of a foreign worker Solonggo and a bookstore employee Nayoung
It is a small village that merge with sky even in Seoul. ‘Seo-Nayoung’, a 27 years old, had just moved in had left Gangneung, Gangwondo which is her hometown and is working at a bookstore in Seoul. Nayoung meets her neighbor ‘Solonggo’ who is a young Mongolian at the rooftop when she was trying to hang her laundry. After having an awkward meeting, they become close with each other.

An adventure of chickens that go searching for their dreams
It is a family music theater in that everyone can enjoy and be share their moving hearts together. It has the unique humor and exciting dances of ‘Pansori’ and uses today’s language, so it is very easy and interesting to enjoy the story. The story is about whimsical chickens who escaped out of their chicken farms to find their dreams. It also delivers values such as dream, environment, peace, and bond.
6. ULJEONGBU LOVE SCANDAL
A new and shocking opera piece produced by opera director Sunyoung Jung and the creative opera company ‘Art is Potato’
Donizetti(Italian)’s ‘The Love Potion’ is recreated into a love story with Uljeongbu setting
It is the latest piece of ‘Art is Potato’ which strives to make operas easy to understand and be more accessible for the audience.
Instead of the typical stage background of ‘The Love Potion’ based on the West countryside, it brings the setting to Uljeongbu and gives vivid impression surpassing time and place by portraying our images living at this time and at this place.

Gecko Theatre
Gecko Theatre is a physical drama company of England led by Amit Lahav. Members of various nationalities and ages do their diverse working activities and are receiving internationally positive reviews by presenting pieces that are visually exceptional. , a physical comedy that has movie-like images and music with unique melodies combined had received enthusiastic response from Korean audience in 2011 Uljeongbu Music Theater Festival. In 2015, with support from ACE(Arts Council England), , a live performance especially produced for TV broadcast was aired through BBC. The drama company is currently going on a world tour all over England, Russia, China, Georgia, Malta, Mexico and etc.
