Korea’s Feminist Movement: Past and Present

On May 17th, in a Gangnam co-ed bathroom, a man waited and killed the first woman he encountered, primarily for being a woman. The murder sparked nation-wide debates on feminism, misogyny, and discrimination. It brought into public consciousness the daily fears and violence suffered by women and other minorities. The International Strategy Center invites Park Ji-A (director of Gender Equality Education Center at the Seoul Women’s Association) to discuss the Korean feminist movement: its concepts and its past and present. All are welcome.

(The lecture will be held with simultaneous interpretation in Korean and English.)

여성과 소수자라는 이유만으로 차별과 폭력의 대상이 될 수 있다는 것을 보여주는  강남역 사건. 이런 모든 폭력과 차별에 맞서 싸워온 여성주의 운동의 역사! 그 역사는 오늘도 계속 이어지고 있습니다. 여성주의, 여성 혐오, 소수자에 대한 차별 논쟁이 많아지고 있는 요즘, 여성주의 개념과 한국 여성주의 운동의 역사와 현재에 대해 박지아 성평등교육센터장으로부터 듣고자 합니다. 관심있는 분들의 많은 참여 바랍니다. (강연은 한영 동시통역으로 진행됩니다.)
