Bedding in Busan!?! I need sheets sheets sheets (only sheets)!!!

#1 unbridled blackcloud

I have a huge stain on my sheet (I know that sounds bad but I dont' care to explain) and I want to replace it. I just stopped by GS Mart and after some talking to the helpful ladies working there I realized the only thing approaching a sheet that they have is a very thick piece of bedding that actually does function as a sheet in that it has all the proper elastic and what not and the ladies showed it to me and, yeah, it's a sheet I guess. They called it a "mattress cover" which would be a more apt term. The only problem was that a)like i said, it is really thick (a fair amount of extra padding for a "sheet." It's going to be summer; I dont' really need the extra thermal power of this thing); b)it was like 40,000 won which is WAY too expensive; c)it was only offered in atrocious colors. As with so many things in Korea, this is turning out to be infinitely more complicated than it needs to be.

Someone help me!

Where can I buy like a normal, 10-15,000 won sheet for my queen-sized bed as are so plentiful in North America? I'm even willing to compromise on the tacky colors.

Please. Thanks.

  • Well I was going to say that Hyundai Dept. Store where I once great seperates. I bought some there for a single bed that lasted longer than some Ralph Lauren's which I brought from back home. Hoever, this store may be a little out of your price range.

Now last year I did get a set in Homeplus, fitted including a fitted one but it was not hte right size when I got it home. Now it is probably possible to get what you want there just remember to be specific about size.

Another place to try is Pusanjin Market. This is the place in Beomildong that I sometimes call 'the fabric barn'. Which might be a good choice if you are still having problems with the exact size, because I have been told that they can make them for you. This is highly possible with all the fabrics there and the fact that orders are taken for tailor-made clothes

You may also try Kukje Market (Nampo-dong area) as I found a 'normal' fitted bottom sheet and a flat top sheet (yes, proper bedsheets!) for a double, I believe that they likely have queen as well.

  • Emart in Jungdong (haeudnae) always has fitted sheets (no flat sheets unfortunately). I can't remember how much they cost, but probably about 30,000. They usually have a few decent colors. Check around your local marts.

P.S. Mattress covers are meant to go on a bed between the mattress and fitted sheet to add a little more padding and to keep the actual mattress cleaner. I'm surprised they didn't also have fitted sheets.

Last time I was in Costco they had some decent ( not excellent) thread count sheets all in a set. I mean a set that you would get in the west that is.
Fitted, Flat, 2 pillow cases.

You could order them online from the costco website thing. If you wanted.

  • Unbridled Blackcloud,
Did you ever find your sheets? I am asking because this past week Tuesday was a school holiday for me so one thing I did was shopping. I was in Kukje Market looking for sheets. I made sure to take measurements of the bed this time. The first shop we ask said the size bed which I have, a double, is hard to find sheets for currently, sounding like maybe it is being phased out. Well we continued on to other shops and found one in the very next block and they said I could order the size needed. They are making a set of a fitted and a flat sheet with two zippered pillow cases, and it is taking about ten days. I expect that it should be very good quality. The cost is a little steep but if by keeping the receipt I will see if my district office will except it as part of my housing accessory allowance later this year.

Any names of the places in Kukje would be great, I am interested in going down and getting some good sheets as well. I did see the ones in Costco. 500 thread count. Polka-dot as I remember. and 100k for the whole set.

Well now I am finally getting back to posting here. Also this terminal does have Hanguel capabilties so it is better for posting the address. The place which I had my sheets made in Kukje Market is 한일침구. Now the cost was 105,000 won, this included two sheets, (one fitted, one flat) and four pillow cases, (two zippered, two open), also maybe I did not mention that I had my choice of colors.

Last year I did have one sheet made at the Pusanjin Market, the place near Beomildong Station that I sometimes call "the Fabirc Barn." This is just a plain flat sheet in a wonderful gold color. However I like the feel of the fabric of the ones from Kukje much better.

Re: Where to find bedding in Busan

Excuse me, but with all these directions or suggestions here are you still having a hard time finding some sheets?  One thing I will add about this is that if you ever bring some from stateside it is best to get the extra long ones.  This way if they do turn out to be a little loose you could always tighten them with safety pins.
