Tenure/Permanent Status After Two Continuous Years?

I have a question that old timers are only likely to be able to answer.

I remember when Roh Mu Hyun was President, a law was passed stating that if a temporary worker is employed beyond two years, management is obligated to make that worker's position permanent.

I wonder if that is still the case and if so, does it apply to permanent residents with an F5/F6 visa?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Tenure/Permanent Status After Two Continuous Years?

Yes, your information about the law is correct.  However, it has been my personal experience and observation that a foreigner, even an F5/F6 holder, will not acheive this status; they will simply let you go after your 2 years are up.  I have had friends in Seoul who worked for Korean Air and Samsung, and they were not re-signed despite decent work records.  Also, this happened to me in a major company.  The good news is this doesn't seem to apply to universities where they seem to be able to resign a professor to many consecutive contracts.  Bad news, I don't know of any foreigner who has acheived tenure tract.  I've always been told "not possible" whenever I've asked.  Hope this helps.
