Call home from your cell for free
Printer-friendly version

You can call home for free with your cell phone.

Just dial 1544 0044.  You will hear some pre-recorded Korean giving instructions.

As soon as you hear that voice just dial your country code, area code and number followed by the # sign.

BAM! You are connected.  This service appears to be 100% free, except for your normal phone charges.  I have used this service for eight months with no surprise charges on my bill.

Hope this helps someone!

in case you're having

in case you're having trouble - you don't need to dail any zero's before your country code, and i didn't dail #...

here's what i dail to the states from my cell phone in busan:

1544 0044 / recorded message/ 1 xxx-xxxx / pause /short recorded message/ connection!

Give it another shot

Hi Simar,

Here is exactly how I do it.  I have used it more than a hundred times and have only got a busy signal once or twice.

1. I dial 1544 0044 and call.

2. I hear some Korean message. (you don't have to wait until it ends)

3. I dial country code, area code, number and press the # key (1 814 833 1234 #)

4. I am connected.

I have only used this service when calling to USA and Canada.  I don't know if any other countries are supported.  Hope it works for you :)

Tried it on my PPS and it didn't work....

I tried it on my PPS phone and it chewed through the w10,000 I had on the phone in about 5 minutes.

Not sure how this is supposed to work but it didn't work for me.
