Is this a bad situation or not??? please help. Re: Is this a bad situation or not??? please help. Sa-rah

I've only lived in Busan for 1 year but I've been in Korea for 7and a half. I don';t know about Hogwans down here but  I would suggest that the only abnormal thing you have mentioned is the fact that you only get 10 days holiday. The usual situation is 10 days plus national holidays.

The situation doesn't sound amazing from what you've said but your experience here...

Kite, he might just be clueless. Many Koreans are when it comes to matters dealing with visas and us. With that said though you mentioned that he has had dealings with foreigners before. Be on your toes. If not having health care and pension really bothers you then mention it to him but if you can get along without it and not care to shake the hornets nest then by all means let ...

Banks that Issue Certified Cheques Re: Banks that Issue Certified Cheques lee-bum-suk

Yes, you should be able to get a money order in Canadian dollars. I wouldn't go to farmers, fisherman mutual(nong/su-hyup) but one of the bigger banks should be ok. Korea exchange bank or busan bank or jae-il. Good luck.....make sure it's payable to the receiver general or whomever you have in Canada.

Thanks everyone, there was some good info in there.  I didn't even think about documentation on my insurance or pension plan.  I can definitely stick it out and I'm sure changing jobs is far more complicated than it sounds.  I just haven't been explained anything which worries me, my director is either that spacey or is setting me up to screw me.  He seems like a good...

Banks that Issue Certified Cheques Re: Banks that Issue Certified Cheques Peppie
I just verified on the RCMP website that money orders are accepted and yes it must be in Canadian dollars. Are you certain I can obtain one at a bank? Like I said, it has been several years since I did this and I may very well have gotten one last time, I just can't remember. Thanks for your help.

Can we use Korean bank cards (ATM) in Japan? Re: Can we use Korean bank cards (ATM) in Japan? kat
KEB has a global debit card.  they also have global credit card.  But you need to make a deposit for the latter.  Go to KEB and ask for global debit card. you can use it at atms all over the world.  I used it in Japan many times.

As for Kat:  Thanks for redoing my list and managing to take out every bit of humor in the thing.  You really took what I thought was a piece of fun and made it into the most tepid, mushy, boring piece of writing that my now-sleepy eyes have ever had the misfortune to take in.

....

And really, if everybody only said "nice" things all the time, what kind of lame, awful,...

Wow.  This suddenly blows up on Koreabridge.  I wrote this months ago.  You should have seen the facebook thread.

I wrote it because I think it was funny.  I still think it's funny - EVERYTHING ON THE LIST - ESPECIALLY THE ORPHAN BIT.  Sorry if it offends some of you, but when I was seven I was raped by a roving band of orphans.

Damn skippy! Not to slam the thread starter because I don't know your background but newer people these days don't seem as hungry as the previous EFL generation of peoples.I think the dynamics back home have changed for the worse somewhat and people are longing for the days when they could just sit in their parents basement,...

Hi Fi Cables/Speaker Cables Re: Hi Fi Cables/Speaker Cables j9scott
Thanks.  I tired the major supermarkets and electronic stores without success.  I have been successful with buying the cable at Nampo-Dong (near Jalcachi and Gukte Market) in Busan where there are plenty electronic stores/stalls.

Your conditions are somewhat
normal, though you should check on your ARC card and visa .Asking too
many questions of other foreigners, reading too much can be
unhelpful at times. You are probably stuck there for 6 months, a meaningful and
good experience. I reckon everyone should have the pressures of a
Hakwan for at least a year. It's good training, hard and will make...

Trust me, that's a good thing. People are happier running their own show, there are losts of useful things on a number of websites you can copy, paste, download etc.. Are you getting paid on time? That's very important. I wouldn't work on the weekends but you need to to...

Is this a bad situation or not??? please help. Re: Is this a bad situation or not??? please help. phatt60

This sounds like a bad job.  You should change jobs.  Otherwise, you will put up with all of this crap, and at the very end they might not pay you you're severance pay, your flight home, and you might find out they took pension and health insurance money out of your check without actually paying your pension or insurance.

But it's a bit complicated.  The immigration will...

Jay,

POM, in my mind, was right in a lot of what he wrote here. He addressed a lot of the pretentiousness that exists here. Maybe some of us are bitter, old and twisted. However, we don't like cock sure newbies, esp. those who think they invented a good time. I don't think he's in the minority when it comes to his views.I think a lot old...

Can we use Korean bank cards (ATM) in Japan? Re: Can we use Korean bank cards (ATM) in Japan? mattsid

I agree with Starlight. It really depends on your bank and the type of card issued. I have 3 Korean credit cards and one debit card. The 3 Korean credit cards work fine abroad and although I can't use the debit card, I am pretty sure that I can use the credit card issued by the same bank to access my checking account.

I think it comes down to the associated credit company. Mine are Visa...

Can we use Korean bank cards (ATM) in Japan? Re: Can we use Korean bank cards (ATM) in Japan? starlight8599

It depends on your bank and the type of ATM card you were issued.  I have two Korean ATM cards.  One is international and I can use it everywhere and have used it in 6 different countries.

I advise you not to listen to me or anyone else on these forums because people don't know what they are talking about.  They guess and assume things they don't know about...

Can we use Korean bank cards (ATM) in Japan? Re: Can we use Korean bank cards (ATM) in Japan? Dogarse

I would guess no to both.

It's quite difficult to get an International bank card here and most banks will tell you outright that foreigners cannot get one.  of course, it's quite possible you are one fo the exceptions but I wouldn't bet on it.
