Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? Re: Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? lee-bum-suk

Cross, you will probably need those things for the in-house paperwork of the university/college but these are not forwarded or anyway needed by immigration.

Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? Re: Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? Trevor
An online TESOL certificate isn't worth the paper it's printed on, so why not fake it. I've had a proper TESOL cert. for ages and it hasn't helped me at all, mostly because my employers had no idea what it was. So faking it shouldn't be a problem. However, if you're going to be here for a while it might pay to get a real certificate, not just to get a job, but also so that you have some idea how...

Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? Re: Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? dcross
Thanks guys. Jay, I am married and have an F visa. Will I need to prepare my criminal background check, transcripts, etc for a uni job or will my F-Visa exempt me in some way?

Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? Re: Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? Jay Vander

just say you have one. they check your degree from uni but everything rarely if ever. i have never been asked to show any of my exta teaching documents-never, and we are talking about 7 years i have been here.

as for a uni gig, it is who you know almost 100%. my two uni gigs were brought to my doorstep. public school jobs i would just apply. with 3 years of experience you should be...

Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? Re: Is it worth getting an online TEFL certificate here? runningfree

i wouldn't have got my university position this summer without my masters in tesol and applied linguistics (online, in progress) in my humble opinion. i enjoy studying and see teaching as a career but it's a hard work, intensive course so it's not something to take lightly...IMHO.

i think the masters and a course greatly differ in the detail and what you get from them long term,...

Why are people so excited about a Taco Bell opening in Seoul? Re: Why are people so excited about a Taco Bell opening in ... ИВАН ДРАГО
Brown rice is very good for you, but yeah, white rice has been processed with the husk removed (which gets rid of a lot of nutrients).  Not the most nutritious thing.  I gave up fast food a few years ago, but when I did eat it, I liked going to Taco Bell.

Does Hagwon need transcripts for part time work? Re: Does Hagwon need transcripts for part time work? Angel

I'm guessing it is a Hakwan obligation.-to get their licence approved, or something weird like that.Maybe it is trying to claim that they have a full time teacher, to enhance their standing.

From what I understand, the Hakwan is only required to register the teacher if they are contracted full time and E2 status However, the laws for Hakwan &  F visas is murky...

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Dogarse

I guess people haven't mentioned the Cheese burger at Geckos because it's so far out of the league of the other stores that they can't really compete but for the record it's pretty damn good.

You know it's a good sign when they ask you how you want your burger cooked because it means it's not fully of crappy meat that will kill you eating it uncooked.

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Trevor
The best burger I've had recently was at Thomas Grill in Kyungsung. Better than Breeze Burns and Kraze burger. And they have Hoegarden draught.

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Jay Vander
Lets face it, Koreans do not know how to make a decent burger. They make them with way too much sauce and they always fall apart. Breeze Burns sucks to. They make it look good but if Chef Ramsy went in, he would be like, bloody hell! The best burger in town, sadly, is at TGIF. You just need to ask them to cook the bun. But for 13 bucks you get one bad ass burger and fries. Some bars are good to...

Does Hagwon need transcripts for part time work? Re: Does Hagwon need transcripts for part time work? lee-bum-suk

What 143 says is true but the MOE is a rubber stamp agency and doesn't have a gestapo unit or use their tactics.

My wife has had a study room for ten years and she has never gotten a visit once. A local hogwan in my town has an F2 Russian women teaching English, she has been there for 3-4years. There are competative hogwans in the same building I might note...

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali lee-bum-suk

HAHA!! If only I lived in Busan and knew that.  I only went to PNU to go to that big book store.

The fries were decent but it's pretty hard to screw up fries really and their wasn't enough of them. . I was going to order some of that cicek(?) but after the bun fiasco I thought it might come in the form of a shot glass of korean yogurt or ? ...

Does Hagwon need transcripts for part time work? Re: Does Hagwon need transcripts for part time work? 143busan
Transcripts are only formalities that are required to obtain an E2 visa.  If you are already in Korea with a legal visa to work, a transcript will not be required.  However, it is the policy of the Ministry of Education in Korea, that any English instructor, private or public institution, have a 4 year degree.

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Dogarse
Get with the times dude.  Kebabistan was a "never again" about 2 years ago.  Sadly the Turkish joint in Seomyon is going that way too.  I could handle the switch from sensational thin Turkish bread so standard tortillas, but a lamb kebab in a hotdog bun is where I draw the line.

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali lee-bum-suk

Speaking of bun issues, My lamb kebab 'sandwich' at the turkish place in PNU on my last visit was a plain cold hot dog bun. I'll be cooking lamb myself from the asia mart if that's all one needs to make a lamb 'sandwich'. Oh and thanks for the shared coke, never again......

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali SolidChamp

Based on the info you've provided, I think I'll be avoiding this place.  It's unfortunate, because the initial post had me excited to try something that wasn't Breeze Burns (though I'm not complaining about Breeze Burns).  That was a very informative assessment of what you had for lunch, and I think this should give people a really good idea of whether or not they want to try it out...

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali busanfoodguy

Went and had lunch during the storm today.

I ordered the Classic Burger for 11,000 won and was quite startled when it was delivered.

The only "classic" thing was was the bun, despite the menu picture. No cheese, no pickle, no ketchup or mustard, no onion, etc.

The traditional bun was layered with radicchio (my guess). Nestled in the red stuff was a...

diet drinks Re: supermarket diet drinks - help please lee-bum-suk

Joe I would use water and add lemon juice(lazy lemon). You can pick up the plastic lemon things anywhere, they are about 2500w. I get the bigger bottle which is usually in the foreign food section of Mega mart or Lotte Mart. It's a 1000ml, which could easily flavor gallons and gallons of water and last you an entire summer. It only has 75calories for the entire bottle...

diet drinks Re: supermarket diet drinks - help please busanfoodguy

I was just turned on to the wonderful flavors of fruit vinegars. "hong cho"

In the vinegar aisle. Flavors I have tried: prune, blackberry, persimmon, pomegranate

Pour about 20 ml over ice (to your taste) and add cold water..

Very refreshing. Tart and fruity, but only 30 calories. Promotes weight loss.

HomePlus has a sale right now.

check out...

Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali Re: Ten Tables - new burger place in Gwangali busanfoodguy

Sound good. Its within walking distance for me, but still, I would like to know what time they open.

Korean businesses rarely post opening and closing hours, nor the days. Why is that?

What bugs me (a small rant, here) is the lack of Western foods available in the MORNING!

I'd like to have a more "westernized" breakfast than bean-sprout soup and rice.
