Dear Korea #095 - Seriously. Stop It

Hey readers! In case you don’t follow me on Facebook for one reason or another, I was away on vacation for the past couple of weeks. This is why the updates have been rather…lacking. Now that vacation time is over, it’s time to get back to work. Boo.

During my vacation, a couple of friends of mine that I used to work with back when I was living stateside decided to take a family trip to Seoul. Since I tend to get unreasonably happy and excited whenever someone from home visits, I sent them essay long tips on traveling in Korea and went up to the big city for a few days to spend time with them while showing them around (even though this resulted in us getting lost multiple times).

Hey all! I hope you’re having a great Monday (especially after a super cold weekend)!

Now, I’m fully aware of the fact that people passing out flyers is a fairly common thing all over the world. I’ve personally never been a fan of this form of advertising, as it just seems to create a lot of unnecessary trash all over the place. I wonder, is there anyone out there that actually likes being handed flyers?

Dear Korea #080 - A Little Privacy Please

Yay! A new comic! It’s on time too! This is something I shouldn’t be celebrating!

Anyways, the situation presented in this strip is one that happens a LOT more often than I thought it did (especially in smaller cities). I guess it’s something I don’t ever experience too much while on my own, as I look fairly Korean. Whenever I was out with my flock of foreigner friends, I always assumed people were looking over our way due to all the English they were hearing. It wasn’t until I started going for more walks with my very uncommon roommate that I noticed people blatantly staring and taking not-so-sneaky pictures.

Dear Korea #079 - Not a Fan of Pain

Dear Korea #079

Yay for a new comic! I can’t believe we’re almost reaching the end of the year already.

The incident in presented in the comic is based off of true events. Each time someone I know has requested to be put under for any sort of dental surgery, they’ve pretty much been told to suck it up and walk it off. While I usually try to tough things out, having someone pulling and yanking and tugging at a tooth that’s hiding under gums and growing in sideways for over an hour turned out to be a very unpleasant experience for me (as well as others I know). To make it worse, they only seem to like giving out no more than a few days worth of pain killers.

Oh jeez, this is really late. I do apologize for that! I hope the not-so-cleverly censored nudity in  the second panel of this comic helps make up for it!

Dear Korea #061 - Officially Sick of the Cold

Dear Korea #061

I love the cold much more than I should. When you take into consideration that I’m from Texas, it makes even less sense. That being said, I think I’m kind of ready for winter to be over now.

Spring in Korea is quite lovely, and I think I speak for everyone here when I say that it needs to hurry up. Yes, its arrival will probably lead to my allergies acting up like they never have before (they only act up when I’m in an Asian country), but at least I won’t have to wear my jacket anymore. I’m even willing to take hoodie weather at this point.

Hey everyone! Getting sick of the comics complaining about the cold yet? I honestly don’t mind the cold, but it can sometimes get to be a bit much.

Now opening windows isn’t something I think all Koreans do, but it’s something I have noticed from time to time. It’s also interesting to hear complain about how hot they are when they’re sitting in a room with the heater running with their coats on, but they still demand to have the window opened before taking off any item of clothing. Maybe there’s a reason for this? Is there such a thing as heater death? I have no idea.

Really Korea, I apologize for being a total wimp at times when it comes to the cold.

Dear Korea #037 - 100% Biodegradable

Dear Korea #037

This seems to be a problem I run into somewhat often. I don’t know if it’s just something that my city deals with, but trash seems to be an ongoing problem all over the country (from what I’ve seen). It kind of bums me out to see that, especially after being told how clean South Korea is.

Now, before I go on any further, I’m not exactly green and/or eco-friendly. I’ve done more than my fair share of littering, and I’m not as conservative as I should be in many situations.
