You Are Awesome, Tim Burton

This past weekend I went up to Seoul with my friends Heather and Beau as a goodbye trip before they leave to go work in Japan. While I was there having some fun (while freezing a bit), I was also able to cross something else off of my 27 before 27 list.DSC01247

This past weekend I braved the cold weather of Seoul and went to the Seoul Museum of Art to see the amazing Tim Burton exhibit!

I’m In Trouble

This weekend while in Nampo-dong I couldn’t help myself and I ventured into the BoDa store, which is full of cute stationary, toys, knickknacks, and my favorite weird cute figures- Sonny Angel Dolls.   Not only did they have new dolls with new random things on their heads, but they also now offer Calendar Gift Sets!

I was proud of myself for not giving in to the marketing ploy, but it was cute.  And just because someone at the Sonny Angel company is really giving it their all, they also now offer backdrops for your (my) collection of weird naked babies with animal heads.

Ta Prohm

Ta Prohm was one of my favorite temples that I visited in Cambodia, and it’s not too surprising. Along with Bayon, Ta Prohm had that feeling of being a lost temple filled with potential discovery, which I loved.

Even when it was swarming with tour groups (a lot of which were Korean), there were plenty of nooks and crannies ripe for exploring away from the crowds.

Happy Sunday

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend, and I just wanted to give you a bit of a preview of tomorrow’s post and one of my favorite temples in Cambodia, Ta Prohm.  There will even be a dinosaur involved.

P.S. Trees are awesome!

Souvenir Shopping

I didn’t buy much in the way of things while I was in Cambodia, but the ‘souvenirs’ that took up the most space in my backpack were food.  I’ve mentioned it before, but I love going into supermarkets and stores in other countries, even convenience stores.  Markets are amazing, but there’s something about getting a peek into the daily lives and shopping habits of other people who I love.In Koh Kong I got some strange ice cream from a supermarket that I still don’t know the flavor of, in Siem Reap while getting snacks for a twelve-hour bus ride I found fantastic (and loud) Kettle Chips.

Chop Chop

Yesterday, I cut off all my hair.  Or more accurately, I cut off over 10 inches of my hair.  To start my 27 Things list off on the right foot, I decided last night to do something I had been wanting to do for a while, cut my hair and donate it to Locks of Love. DSC00960

27 Things to Do Before I Turn 27

Today is my half birthday.  I remembered it was coming up a few days ago.  I’m not sure if it was all the talk of New Year’s Resolutions, this blog awesome blog I came across the other day, or my love of a good list that helped make this decision.  It was probably a combo of all three.

Thank You 2012

Dear 2012,

You’ve been a lovely year.  You began with great friends in the States, and now you’re ending with great friends here once again in Korea.

Thank you 2012, for amazing students who surprise me constantly, personal fulfillment, the ability to complete 50,000 word writing goals, and even more travel!  You haven’t always been the easiest year, but you have definitely been an unforgettable one!

Catch You Later, Busan

Tomorrow I fly to Cambodia! I’m still not fully ready, but I’m almost there.

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and some time with your loved ones.  Before I depart, I will leave you with a painting that I helped make last weekend of a cat and unicorn (who looks a bit like a wolf) eating ice cream in a field of flowers.

Smells like Democracy

I didn’t realize that you could bottle the scent of Democracy,

until the other day when I discovered that yes, we can.  Now I just need to buy this and wear it when I put on my Obama socks and I’ll be ready to go conquer Capitol Hill.
