Erythritol and Sugared Beans without the Sugar

Hello there!

Homemade Greek Yogurt

When I first came to Korea, I was pretty appalled by the yogurt selection, and price. Korea loves tiny little portions- which is fine, but when the price is double what you’d pay back home in Canada, for a quarter of the size, you get pretty bummed out. Being the thrifty person that I am, I decided to investigate making my own yogurt. Not only could I save money by making a bigger batch- but I could also control what goes into my finished product. Another problem (for me) with Korean varieties of yogurt, is that they have lots of sugar in them, which I don’t want. So, this was my second reason to opt for a homemade version.

Convenience Foods- Korean Bodybuilding Chicken

Last year, I worked at an English Hagwon, which is a Korean private study academy. Students here go to these academies after they’ve finished their regular school day. They take classes like English, Math, Science etc… anything to possibly get them a leg up on getting into their preferred Universities once they get to that age. Even though these are elementary students, the pressure for them to perform is already very much present. I now teach at a Public Highschool, but most of the students here don’t go to a Hagwon. That’s because they go to school from 7:50am to 10:00pm. No joke. Some do go to academies after this time- I’ve ran into my students at 10:30 pm on their way to a study hall, or science academy. It breaks my heart but I’ve realized it is not in my power or ability to make any kind of change to the system. I could go on about the pressure and stress of the overworked Korean student, however that is not my goal for today.

Spiced Roasted Black Soy Beans

I thought life would slow down a bit after my fitness competition.

I was wrong.

It’s only gotten busier! I don’t even know where all my time goes- but it’s been so hard to find the time to blog!

My workout routine has changed a little bit- now I’m going to the gym everyday. There used to be days where I would be only doing cardio, so I didn’t need to go to the gym- but now actually I’m there everyday.

Even Sundays.

Sure two of my workout sessions are only 30 min ab circuits- but it still takes time to go, warm up, stretch, change, leave etc.

And therefore I have less time to devote to my blog.

Salty Citrus-y Mackerel

I have to say that this recipe is AWESOME!

Really!

And that’s not to say that the other recipes that I post aren’t. They’re good too. But this recipe is seriously fantastic. Unless you don’t like fish. orangemackerel (29 of 31)

What is a healthy diet?

This is such a challenging subject it seems. And yet it isn’t. But what makes a healthy diet is still such an area of confusion to so many people. And even when you follow your version of a healthy diet- is it really that?

I thought I would share my thoughts on diet. As a person who has been very food focused for many years, I’ve definitely read a great deal, experimented a lot, and am still finding myself frustrated and confused.

However, right now, and since I hired my coach, I feel better than I have all year. Do I look better? Well I still don’t feel as lean as I like to, but my show is still 6 weeks away and slowly but surely I am getting there. Before I go into what I’m doing now, I’ll share some of the things I’ve tried. And keep in mind, that although these things have worked for weight loss, they haven’t been very good for health or performance.

Curried Chicken with Creamy Veggie Puree

I sort of have a love hate relationship with chicken.

Chicken+puree (35 of 44)

It’s one of those foods that is usually safe to get when you eat out, and is pretty readily available, both positives. Also, it fits into my meal plan on both rest days and training days, so its easy for me too cook a big batch and be able to eat it every day of the week. However- whenever you end up eating something over and over and over… you can get pretty sick of it.

Frozen Banana Peanut Pudding

So I didn’t think it was fair to list Peanut Flour as one of my favourites without really offering a recipe. If you read last week’s post,  you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Of course, peanut flour is delicious on its own with just water, but if you want something even better- this is a quick, simple and tasty recipe to try.

Salsa+Olive Stuffed Pollack

********At the time this post is published, I will be enjoying myself on holiday in Thailand! However, I wanted to give you something despite being away :) *******

So remember a few weeks ago, when I said I wanted to incorporate more fish into my diet?_MG_0962

Sweet Potato Cookie-Blondies

_MG_0898Okay these aren’t real cookies, but I’ve been calling them cookies in my head for months now, so I’m going to continue to call them cookies. You have my permission to change the name or think otherwise. REGARDLESS, they are good. And cookie-like. Or maybe blondie-like. I don’t really know, I didn’t grow up eating blondies… yes okay cookie-blondie like. Aha! A much better name!
