Advertising Genius from Korea – Jeseok Yi (Jeski)

If you have seen the first episode of  the Korean Drama, Advertising Genius, Lee Tae Baek, you would recognize the ad below of the standing car. The ad was originally created by the real life Advertising Genius from Korea, Jeseok Yi, for Hyundai Motors and it is said that this drama, Advertising Genius – Lee Tae Baek  is loosely based on his life.

Koshik, The Elephant, that Speaks Korean

Next time you visit Everland Zoo in Yongin, do not forget to say Annyeong (Hi) to the 22-year-old Elephant Koshik. As per the article below published in The Salt Lake Tribune, Koshik can reproduce “annyeong” (hello), “anja” (sit down), “aniya” (no), “nuwo” (lie down) and “joa” (good). Scientists say he may have started vocalizing because he was lonely. Read the article below for more details.

Hearing Impaired Kim Soo Rim – The Helen Keller of Korea

Kim Soo Rim’s was born in Seoul and her parents divorced when she was just 2 years old. Her father left her at a distant relative’s house in the countryside. She lost her hearing completely when she was six due to an illness, and her mother, who left in search of work, came back four years later with a sibling from a different father. Kim followed her mother to Japan after finishing elementary school and was left in the care of a Japanese friend of her mother’s.

Kim Soo Rim now is hearing impaired but can speak 4 languages – Korean, Japanese, English and Spanish fluently and understand all four languages simply by lip reading.
