I have heard stories, anecdotal mostly, how even the scent of coffee can cause one great need to have a poo. Does this happen to you? Because, I also read recently that one of the sneaky causes of constipation can be drinking too much coffee.

Here are some coffee shops in Korea that have English that may raise an eyebrow or two, causing several heads to be scratched in the process.

Diving with Sharks in Busan

Korea may not be at the top of your list for scuba diving destinations, but you have to learn somewhere! I recently had my first experience scuba diving, and it was a long time coming. Can you believe that I went backpacking around Southeast Asia for 5 months and have never been scuba diving?? Me either. But it’s pretty expensive, and my other half sinks more than he swims.

The Busan aquarium in Haeundae allows Aquatic Frontier, a PADI 5 star dive center located in Osan, to lead dives for the uncertified in the large shark tank. It’s a great chance to experience scuba diving before paying a large sum of money for the PADI certification course. Me and my friend Kate have been talking about doing the shark dive for a year, and the day finally came with a lot of nervous excitement.

Upcoming Busan Sand Festival

BUSAN SAND FESTIVAL 2015

This weekend (29th May) sees the start of the Busan Sand Festival at Haeundae beach. The theme for this years festival is children’s stories (fairy tales) and there are some really excellent sculptures to greet the visitors.

For the last week I strolled along the beach to chat to the artists and see the progress they are making.

The first note, is that they are all professional sculptors and travel the world producing their art for all to see.

The sculptors come from Holland, Mexico, Korea, Italy, USA and Canada. To many of us, and I was one until this week, it just seemed that carving shapes in the sand was all that there was to this art form, but how wrong could we be! – I cannot even get a kiddies bucket of sand to stand up.

How to meet people in Korea (or at least Busan!)

You're going to have to kiss a lot of frogs before finding your Prince (or Princess!).  Thankfully there is a mixed bag of great people in Korea.  Photo by Joel Gale Photography

Guesthouse COOOOL: A Grown-Up Hostel on Haeundae Beach

Once a hostel fanatic, I've found myself disliking them more and more as I get older. I'm no longer up for the late night partying I once enjoyed in my younger days, and I much more prefer a clean, comfortable and private space to grimy communal ones. Of course, because I travel frequently, I do appreciate a good deal, but budget accommodations that don't compromise these aforementioned qualities aren't so easy to find.

Fancy a meal outdoors, soak up the ambiance of many others, a beer, chicken or fish and chips.

Well Haeundae is the place to go, with a backdrop of modern skyscrapers and the Yacht club, you will never be alone!

The buzz of the chit-chat and a box of good ole English style Fish n Chips washed down with a beverage of your choice.
