Very Queer at Indie Plus

For those who haven't had a chance to see this season's gay films, Indie Plus is screening The Gays Are Coming Volume 3 Some, Night Flight, First Dance, and Stranger By the Lake over the weekend of October 10th through October 12th. While there won't be English subtitles, First Dance looks like it has English subtitles for the parts in Korean and Korean subtitles for the parts in English and Stranger by the Lake is in French.

Makgeolli Festival 2014

The weather is getting cooler and being outside is a pure joy, which means it’s the time of year for the annual makgeolli festival!  Every year in October, it’s a […]

Obong English Festival 2014

One of the events I dread the most at my public school is the English speech competition. Kids reading memorized speeches most of them didn’t even write, about boring topics, with robotic hand gestures? No thank you. I’ve always hated judging those, because it just feels so disingenuous and unproductive. But this year, the administration at my school had the good sense to change things up! Instead of an English speech competition, they decided to host an English Festival! Sounds fun, right?

Budget Travel Tip: Gangwon Shuttle Service

Traveling in Korea doesn't have to break the bank. It's also easier than one might imagine, even for foreigners. Especially for foreigners.

In an effort to increase tourism in their regions, many provincial governments have begun to offer special services to international guests. Lucky us! One such example is the Gangwon Shuttle Service sponsored by Gangwon Province. This shuttle bus is a great way for foreigners to experience Korea's most breathtaking natural landmarks as well as some of its best festivals.

Korea Queer Film Festival 2014

I'm at the airpot heading to Korea and realized that the Korean Queer Film Festival is going on right now! I'm the worst gay blogger in Korea :-(
The festival will continue until Sunday, June 15th. English information can be found at KQFF.com. The only Korean films are short films, unfortunately, but there are a handful of films in English or with English subtitles.

2014 Korea Queer Festival: Love Conquers Hate

It's here!
Although there is some hullabaloo about throwing the parade in light of the Sewol Ferry Incident, the Korea Queer Festival is still on for this Saturday, June 7th. I'm in the midst of my last week of courses and impending finals, so haven't been nearly as active on reporting on the festivities this year. A quick breakdown in English is provided on KQCF's website. The parade is once again being held in the Hongdae area. It was a fantastic experience last year, and I hope you can join in the festivities.

Queerean Town Film Screening

Queerean Town, an LGBTQ group for Koreans in the Toronto area, is presenting their first event on June 14th: a Queer Korean Film Screening.

Buddha’s Birthday at 반야사

The nearest Buddhist temple to our place is just across the road. In fact I pass it every time I go to work. It’s small and hidden up a small hill behind ample tree cover. In fact you’d miss it completely if it were for the multicoloured lanterns which line the street from early April, lanterns which are of course in anticipation of today, Buddha’s Birthday.

Seoul Lantern Festival

I was skimming through some photos in my camera and found a lot of pictures from last year’s Seoul Lantern Festival which my husband and I came to see before we went to the Philippines in November. I was going to talk about the festival and share the photos in my blog, but I suffered from “temporary amnesia” as a result of my preoccupation with our business in the PI. Now I’m back in Korea, back to sanity, back to blogging… but I miss my Mom and the family back home. I can’t wait to see them again this summer.
