Mad For Garlic: Haeundae

I have recently found myself dining at the Haeundae Branch of the Italian restaurant chain Mad For Garlic. Twice! Mad For Garlic is a South Korean ‘Italian Wine Bistro’, which has 39 branches in Korea alone. They specialize in dishes based around, can you guess….. Garlic!

The first visit was at the request of my fiancé, and the second as we had an excellent discount coupon available to us from the restaurant’s membership club. A quick note on that. It is well worth joining, as the discounts they offer are substansial. On this occasion we cashed one in which allowed us to choose a free steak from the menu.  As Mad For Garlic can be on the pricey side, it’s a welcome bonus. To join you have to register online, best to get a Korean speaking friend to help you if possible.

In the Country

I've had a rather enjoyable week, despite the humidity and the MERS scare. Actually, as horrible as this probably sounds, I'm feeling rather thankful to MERS. For one thing, there's soap in the school bathrooms for the first time since, well...ever? I guess people are actually washing their hands now? It's a miracle! Also, since parents were freaking out about it, my school decided to close for 3 days, because allowing students to roam freely around town is somehow safer? One way or the other, teachers still had to come in, though it still felt like a bit of a vacation.

The Best Night At The Beastro

Delicious food, good service, weird cocktails and free wine? Yes please. Where do you go to get these things? The Beastro Restaurant in Seoul, my new favourite place.

Hades Cafe - Brunch & Wine

I had heard some talk of Hades Cafe from several people in my social network but not any feedback. So I decided to venture on over the other day. It is located across the street from Lotte Department store (in the same neighborhood as Daejeon's popular House Grill). (Map Below)

Shopping {Vegan} in Busan – Alcohol

It’s the festive season and for many of us that means parties and alcohol. So to make it easier to live compassionately whilst enjoying yourself, I’ve collecting some tid-bits on vegan alcohol.

All Aboard the Korean Wine Train

Recently, I signed on to film an episode of "Top 10 Korea" with Arirang TV.  I've spent the past few weekends traveling to destinations around Korea that have some sort of relation to railroads, the theme of the episode.  I'm positively certain that I will end up looking like an idiot on international television, but despite that, it has been a really fun experience so far.

Cin Cin's Italian Ristorante

Cin-Cin's is an elegant old-style Italian restaurant in Mannyeong dong.
They started in Vancouver in 1995.

A Spoilt Evening

I wrote a controversial piece in an English Magazine this week about the Korean dog meat industry. Responses were interesting, contentious and stressful. I was happy to arrive home Friday evening to my pets, darling boyfriend and a package from AliensDayOut.

Dinner with more than a few glasses of wine, chocolate and nut truffles, and a slice of delicious orange pound cake – all 100% vegan!! And aren’t they wrapped in the cutest fashion, made with love and care, accompanied with a hand written note. Adore.
