weekend trip

Andong Walk

Andong Walk

Took a weekend trip to Andong recently to finally see Hahoe Traditional Folk Village. Perhaps the colder season is not the best time of the year to go, however I felt it also gives some insight as to how difficult this sort of living must have been. These days these houses have been converted into pensions with modern conveniences so it's not close to being the same as in the past, but still, the exterior is there.

Last Camping Trip- Geoje Island

For our final camping trip we headed to Geoje Island. This is in south-eastern Gyeongsangnam province. We decided to camp at Munhwa Tourist Farm Park. We have been here once before in May 2012 and we kept meaning to return in peak season. We pre-booked our site via their website. It is all in Korean so we got our Korean colleague to help us. (Thanks Sohee!) The staff who work at the site speak fantastic English, there was no communication problems. Everybody is really helpful and friendly.

We arrived on Friday night. Every pitch has an electrical source, which is amazing. We brought our electric fan from home. It was really hot so having a fan was very luxurious!

Baseball, Sand and the Black Eagles

Daegu Stadium

On Saturday David and I went to a baseball game in Daegu with all of the other teacher’s at CEV. The Samsung Lions were playing Doosan Bears. It was a good game. The atmosphere was fantastic. There were cheerleaders, both men and women, cute mascots and everything was incredibly cheap. The tickets cost 8,000 won and you can take your own food and drink into the stadium. Even if you wanted to buy refreshments inside, it is all reasonably priced.

Another Weekend, Another Hike - Jirisan's Unbong (운봉) –Inwol (인월) Trail

This weekend David and I explored Mount Jirisan. Jirisan has many different hiking trails. We chose to walk the Unbong (운봉) –Inwol (인월) Trail (Distance: 9.4 km, Time: around four hours) The trail was easier than we thought as it was very flat. It was well sign posted with red arrows and there was a well defined path.

The Summer is HERE…Camping Trips!!!

The weekend of the 10th and the long weekend of the 16th (Buddha’s birthday) David and I went camping in Namhae Island. Yipppeeeeeeeeeeee the summer is officially here! The first weekend was a tester. We wanted to make sure that the tent was still in good shape after being packed away over the winter. Overall both weekends were very successful.

We spent both weekends camping on Songjeong Beach. We chose this beach because it is one of the most beautiful beaches we have seen in Korea and it is free to camp, plus you can park your car right next to your tent. Whereas on Sangju beach you can’t. We explored a lot of the island over the two weekends.

Busan 25KM Ocean Walk

Busan Segal Walk

On the weekend David and I decided to walk one of the seagull trails in Busan. We headed to Busan on Friday night and stayed near Songdo beach. The next day we woke up early and started our 25km hike. Most of the trail was flat and it was located along the coast so it was pretty and relaxing. We started the hike near Songdo beach and ended it six hours later in Taejongdae. In Taejongdae there was a tourist park and here we took a Danubi shuttle train (costing 1,500 won) to sight see the local sights.

Back to Busan!

Another Long Weekend-Seoul Trip

We got another long weekend on the March 1st as it was a national holiday. This holiday is known as Independence Day or the Samil Movement, it was one of the earliest public displays of Korean resistance during the occupation of the Korean Empire by Japan. Yippeeee for national holidays!

We decided to go to Seoul for two nights. David, myself, Amanda and Brandon have been on a strict healthy eating and exercise regime since the 1st January and Friday the 28th  February was officially the LAST day! So  it was inevitable that Seoul was going to be a junk food and alcohol fest!!!

For this weekend we decided to stay in a hostel in Hong-dae called Pencil Second. All four of us stayed in one room, which was an apartment style dorm. It cost 17,000 won per person per night.

Extra Long Weekend- Yippppppeeeeeeee

As it is Lunar New Year our school was closed and we got not one but TWO extra days off. So it was a four day weekend whoop whoop! Myself, David, Amanda and Brandon decided to spend it exploring Busan. We are all trying to be healthy at the moment so we decided to go for a hike and try and be healthy the entire weekend.

We left our village, Gyeseong on Friday evening and took the bus from Changnyeong to Busan. We headed straight to Nampodong as we were staying in a hostel here. We decided to stay in Apple Guest House for two nights as it was in a good location and was great value for money.
