While the Busan Lotte Giants may be one of Korea’s worst...

While the Busan Lotte Giants may be one of Korea’s worst baseball teams this year, I had to visit my old hometown for a game this season. Huge loss, but worth it to see my friends and craft some Komodo-dragon-looking garbage bags around our heads.

I went to a soccer match in Seoul! I drank Cass Lite and ate ddeokbokki (spicy rice cake, 떡볶이). There were fireworks and cheerleaders. The paper noisemakers were very effective.

One of THE BEST things to do in Busan is to go to a Lotte Giants game. Busan loves the Lotte Giants and it’s clear when you go to the games – fans are loud – singing, cheering, and drinking throughout the game. It’s a breath of fresh air after the lethargic crowds at Cincinnati Reds games that I’ve been to over the past 20 years.

Gaelic Football – Laochra Busan GAA Clu

BY Niall O Grady

What is Gaelic Football? (video)

Gaelic Football is an Irish sport very similar to Australian Rules. It is is played on a rectangular pitch like a soccer pitch with H shaped goalposts much like the goals on a rugby pitch. A goal keeper protects the goal like in soccer.

The football can be kicked or “hand-passed” (a hand-pass is a striking motion with a closed fist). The football can also be carried but only for 4 steps. After every four steps the ball must be ‘played’. This means the ball must be either bounced or “solo-ed”.
Solo-ing can also be referred to as tapping the ball and is action of dropping the ball onto the foot and kicking it back into the hand. To carry the football over a distance a player must ‘play’ the ball every four sets. Players have as many consecutive solo’s as the like but may not bounce the ball twice in a row.

A look at Pyeongchang, home of the 2018 Winter Olympics

They say the third time’s a charm, and for South Korea that’s proven to be the case, at least in terms of the 2018 Olympic Games.

On July 6, 2011, the International Olympic Committee announced that Pyeongchang, South Korea finally won the bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics, after losing to Canada and Russia the previous two times in a row. (Click here to watch the video of the announcement)

The ROK proudly beat out other top contenders such as Annecy, France and Munich, Germany, and it will be the second time the Olympic Games have been held in Korea since hosting the Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988.

Olympic Soccer ♥ Korea VS Japan live at Seoul City Hall!

As we all know, this year was the 2012 Olympics in London!  During the last winter Olympics I happened to be in Korea and remembered how INTO the games the country got, you really feel the pride and unity all over the country when these sorts of things go on because Korea is quite small and hungry to win! One game Koreans get very excited for is soccer, and one thing Koreans get RABID excited about is playing against Japan… so when Korea and Japan Men’s Soccer made it to the finals to compete for the bronze medal I knew we had to go out and mingle with the crowds vs stay at home while Nara screamed at his TV all night lol.

The game was set for 8/11/2012!
