Final Fall Encounters at Seoraksan National Park

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Korea in fall is a sight to be seen.  There are plenty of places to experience all the wonderful things about the season, but there is one special destination that allows visitors to experience autumn in all its glory: Seoraksan National Park.

Gangwon-do, Sokcho - Cheoksan Hot Springs

East Coast: Where to Stay.

When visiting the east coast it can be difficult to choose where you want to stay.

There are many independantly run pensions, which are similar to a bed and breakfasts. You can check out some of the pensions online through a google search. Or you can check this list of Gangwon-do Pensions.

If you are looking for somewhere with more facilities or more luxurious then there a number of hotels in the area too.

Destination: Sokcho Beach (Sokcho, Gangwon-do)

Sometimes, arriving at 2am is perfect.

After catching a late-night bus from Seoul to Sokcho, Kiwi and I arrived at what felt like a late hour – until we saw more lights and neon than some areas of Seoul. The jovial beach area – combined with some younger vacationers – meant the place was surprisingly active long after the sun went down. The standard Western carnival games were around – everything from the classic basketball toss to BB gun shooting – and were pretty popular.

RESPITE

“Life is like a jungle sometimes…it makes me wonder…how I keep from going under”

Slick Rick put it well. Sometimes the urban routine can get you down. The metaphorical jungle that is a city can be a maelstrom. It can be a cold hard bitch at times (sorry ladies). I have been calling Seoul home for nearly a year, and in that time have found very little respite from the concrete. Most every weekend is spent navigating city streets by bicycle, or wandering clustered markets taking picutres. Thus all the more reason why I so enjoyed a recent trip to explore the nearby coast and mountains.
