Dore Dore: A Sinsa Cafe That Takes the Cake

Just when I think I've found all the great cafes Seoul has to offer, another crops up on my radar. Unsurprisingly, the latest find is tucked discreetly off the main strip of Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong, my go-to spot for fancy lattes and pretty treats. But of all the places I've visited in the area over the past couple years, Dore Dore takes the cake. And quite literally, at that.

A Visit to TengTeng Skin Clinic

Last year, over 399,000 people flocked to Seoul for medical tourism purposes. And for good reason. Not only are medical procedures far cheaper than those in other countries, but Korea's medical facilities are state-of-the-art and medical practitioners are some of the most experienced in the world. This proves especially true for cosmetic procedures, which are extremely commonplace in this appearance-focused city.

And it shows. Koreans not only have beautiful faces but flawless skin, as well, thanks partially to their use of elaborate, systematic skin care regimens and regular visits to the dermatologist.

Coffee With Character, Part 3

As promised, I've continued the search for Seoul's best themed cafes. I am happy to report that my most recent finds include a diverse mix of polar bears, bananas, puppies, and cupcakes that will make you scream... with delight. So, without further ado, I give you Coffee with Character, Part Three.

Banana Tree (Sinsa-dong, see map. Closed Sundays.)

Tucked away on an obscure street in upscale Sinsa-dong is Banana Tree, a charming cafe inspired by, well, bananas. Instead of 'going bananas' with the theme, Banana Tree uses hues of yellow and banana decor- a door prop here, an ornament there- in a subtle fashion to incorporate the concept.

Diner Pub @ Garasou Gil

If only more bars in Seoul were like this. From the outside Diner Pub looks nothing more than a shabby pub/restaurant but you'd be wrong to pass this up based on appearances. The fact that it's busy every day is proof that it's doing something right. In my opinion it's because they've found the perfect balance for a place to go hang out casually with your friends. The price is right for what you get, especially given it's in a notoriously more expensive area (Garasou Gil). The music's good and there's no pretence here. It's relaxed. I love it.
