Live Theater: The Pride in Seoul

Alexi Kaye Campbell's The Pride is running in Seoul through November 1st. The Pride's official website has the following synopsis of the play:

A Letter to My Seven Month Old Daughter

Dear +1,

Look at you with your smiles and shitty nappies, you are the world too me. You may not realise it as you are undoubtedly focusing on something you just saw and must now touch, but it’s true, you mean so much to me.

I am writing to you today as I wish to part with some advice. As you are young it is hard for you to understand much, and as you are young it is your natural inclination to believe that you are 100% correct about everything. If the truth be told you will not learn the fallacy of this until you are, well probably close to your own deathbed many years from now.

The Bard in Busan

I know it's the English Major in me, but I love Shakespeare.  Murder, insults, wordplay, cross-dressing, and penis jokes - what's not to love?  Even though I loved Shakespeare in High School- it made me feel super smart.  Having a great professor for my Shakespeare class really did help.  And even last year when a friend at my old job let me borrow her 'Shakespearean insult mug,' I was down right giddy. I mean, who doesn't want to learn lovely old phrases like 'canker blossom'.

So needless to say I was really excited to go see some of my fellow foreigners, and one cool friend act out a great play, in a lovely location, on a nice summer's day- for free.

The play is being performed this coming weekend too (the 9th and 10th at 3pm) and I highly recommend seeing it.

well rounded.

I cannot drink alcohol for a month (don't really want to either, only 4 months left and still so much left to do!) so I have been filling my weekends with plays, festivals, dinners, shopping and sightseeing. Last weekend was the Vagina Monologues, (which I had never seen and it was amazing) and this weekend a friend is starring in Macbeth in Myeongdong so we will spend our Saturday night getting a little culture. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom now so Sunday will be spent outside on Yeoi-do (do=island, this being a small one in the middle of the Han river, connected on the subway line) enjoying the trees and fresh air.. or nuclear fallout from Japan, whatever.
