People from home bring the best presents. Quick listing: Rogue beer, white vinegar, flashflight, meat rubs, bamboo shoots, fish oil, Korean books, Travel Asian books, 6 lbs of honey, three pairs of Converse, Nike snowboard jacket, Roxy Pendleton wool jacket, two strapless bikini tops, two Victoria Secret bras, 100+ spf sunscreen, Dove deodorant, Trojan condoms, Nike sunglasses, Juicy sunglasses, Nikkor 18-200 lens, my trusty Nikon DSLR, Aardvark hot sauce, Korean English bible, two Korean English dictionaries, quality Thai curry paste, emergency transistor radio, Goody hair ties, Ranch packets, quality rain poncho, good Scotch tape, and probably more that I can remember. And, oh yeah, love. The good kind from home you cannot pick up while traveling. Good stuff. Thanks doesn’t quite cover it.

By the way, I am still watching my friend’s dog for just a bit longer. She asked me to take him to the groomers, and in a lost in translation moment, he ended up shaved. Ugly as Mr. Burns, oh my goodness. I am not a big fan of small dogs, but he was cute. Now he is shaved. Oops!

Today as I was walking home during my lunch break, I received a call from my DRUNK mom. She yelled at me to get in a taxi to the next dong over (Mangmi) to a “good beef restaurant” she found. She knew it was “good” because the only English on the outside of the restaurant said “good restaurant.”

I felt like I was back home all over again. My mom does not understand when I was trying to explain that no, I could not just go get wasted, and not come back to work after lunch. I know I have had this conversation more than once with her.

After work we had a good time. Shopping for hideous adjumma clothes (yes, my mom wants hot pink capris!), eating Chinese food, buying a bunch of grapes for 1,000₩ on the street and norebang (Elvis and ABBA for the win).

Late night snack with Mom

After work, I booked it to the airport to see my mom. Her flight was 30 minutes delayed flying out of Tokyo. After watching a bit of the soccer game, I anxiously waited at the arrival gate.

A rush of weird emotions hit me as I saw my mom. She has rarely acted as my guardian, but she is my best friend. On the car ride to where she’s staying, I just laid my head on her shoulder and told her how much I missed her. She was very tired but did a lot of closed eyed nodding and smiling.

If I want to see my mom, I just go to”Jeonpo, exit 1,” a thirty minute subway ride on line one. Her place is really nice. It has all the appliances I haven’t seen in the last two months.

I like being up high, looking down on scenery. Kind of reminds me of a good game of Sim City. I went to Busan Tower, which is 120 meters high on a 69 meter high hilltop. Busan Tower is located in Yandusan Park in Nampodong. Busan is beautiful.

15ft x 55ft jumbo screen down the street from where I live back home. Oh, USA, the land of excess.

That’s me on a “girl date.” (Second mention of same-sex relationships in Korea!) My friend bought the movie tickets and chose for us to sit in some sort of cushy love seat in the back of the theater. Initially, I was looking around, thinking, “Wow, is this the make-out couples area?” But, no, we were surrounded by other ladies on girl dates.

Other girls in Korea have suggested that we go swimming or shopping together, but this day I felt like doing something more relaxing.

These are my littles pretending that they are cats, under the table. This is why I love and hate them at the same time. So cute, so awful.

I am cooking in Korea. Finally. Better than this old sorry mess, eh? Also, check out the giant zucchini. I made Dani some awesome pineapple chicken stirfry noodles with some of that!

Also, with the kitchenware, everything is in order just in time for out of town visitors.

T- 5 days until Mama gets here.
T- 8 days until my first love gets here.
T- 16 days until Seoul (DMZ).
T- 19 days until Jeju.
T- 24 days until I have a complete nervous breakdown (think Mariah Carey a la 2001).

My month is pretty well planned out. Yay!

Catching the subway at six in the morning to see the beautiful morning sky in my lovely neighborhood before a peaceful slumber. Good night.
