The beautifully framed temple courtyard at Gwangsansa Temple in Masan, Gyeongsangnam-do.

Hello Again Everyone!!

You first approach Gwangsansa Temple up some country back-roads and then finally up a long winding road that runs part of the way up Mt. Gwangryeosan in Masan, Gyeongsangnam-do. With all 752 metres of the towering mountain to frame the temple, it makes for quite the beautiful location.

Seongdeokam Hermitage – 성덕암 (Masan, Gyeongsangnam-do)

The golden sunshine early on a Saturday morning over the port of Masan from Seongdeokam Hermitage.

Hello Again Everyone!!

Located just west of the Masan port, and lying on the eastern slopes of a neighbouring hill, is the unassuming Seongdeokam Hermitage in Masan, Gyeongsangnam-do. After navigating your way down some side-streets, you’ll finally be welcomed to the hermitage by a three-in-one cluster of buildings. Around the exterior walls to this multi-faceted building, at least at the entry, are various incarnations of Gwanseeum-bosal (The Bodhisattva of Compassion).

DVD Bang

When it’s too hot or too cold, raining or shining, windy or humid, DVD rooms are the perfect place to waste the day away. We recently went to a DVD bang in Masan. We chose our movie and it cost 20,000won for four people. I think it is pretty good value for money as you get your own private room and huge comfy couch to watch your desired movie on a big screen.

Bread in the shape of poo? Yes Please!

Dong Bang

Today we ate poo! It was available in seven flavours, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, vanilla-corn, caramel peanut, cheese and red-bean. We chose chocolate, vanilla and caramel poo and it was delicious.

The shop that we went to was in Masan, Kyeong-nam. There are fifteen locations around Korea, predominantly in Busan and Seoul.  (http://www.dong-bang.net/)

We look forward to eating some more delicious poo soon!

Mexican & Art in Masan!

Dave and I traveled to Masan this past Saturday, as a way to get away for the day and explore the city we had passed through on our way home one day. The city is well renowned for its textile industry and the site of the production tools of Hite Brewery (one of the most popular beers in Korea). My teacher described it to me as a blue-collar city. The word "Masan" means horse mountain.

Masan

On Saturday David and I went to Masan with Amanda and Brandon. We got some lunch and done some shopping. It felt very festive as it was snowing. As it was very cold we went to a multi bang. This is a place where you hire a room by the hour. ( One hour cost 16,000) The room has a variety of entertainment options. You can watch TV, movies, sing karaoke, play video games and play board games.  We spent two hours playing Super Mario games. The room also had a free snack bar so we munched on pop corn, cookies and drank hot drinks.
