Korean fast food store

Sometimes, when travelling in budget, you’ll probably have a moment when you miss the time of having a proper meal. Moreover, some restaurants have a break time, not receiving any orders. Then what would you do? I’d say “Fast food.” Even though fast food is infamous for being unhealthy, many fast food restaurants are alluring you with delicious and simple menus.

Do you know that there are some fast food menus suited for the taste of Koreans and sometimes only available in Korea as well? There are some localized or so-called “Koreanized” Fast Food menus in Korea that are rare in other countries. We will introduce the menus of 4 major burger fast food restaurants – McDonald’s, Lotteria, Burger King, KFC.

When I first moved to Korea in 2010, I ate Lotteria several times admittedly for the mere novelty of it (e.g. lady burger and red & white burger). In Korea, Lotteria is seen as a mediocre fast food at best. With McDonald’s and Burger King in every neighborhood, it’s hard to compete. It is an entirely different story in Japan.

Bob Burger: Korea’s Rice Burger

When I was teaching in Deokso, which is nearly two hours away from where I live, I barely had time to prepare my lunch at home, so I would usually grab a bite to eat during my break time or buy some food to go. I would either get two different flavors of 삼각김밥 (samgak gimbap or triangle-shaped rice) or those four-layered sandwiches in the convenience store that had weird flavors but, nevertheless, tasted good. They would be enough to keep my stomach from growling for an hour or two, but not for the entire five or six hours that I was working.

Lotteria’s New Duk Stuffed Lady Burger ♥

Korea’s large burger chain Lotteria  (aka Lotte Burger) has recently added a brand new burger to its menu,

the “Lady Burger“. Aside from the fact it comes in a pink printed wrapper, nothing is very lady like about it though~ just delicious.

Top 10 Things to Love About Korea

For those contemplating the leap that is teaching English in South Korea, there's plenty of documentation out there to highlight the big picture draws of the country and the career. You know about the good money, the free accommodation, and the fact you can use South Korea as a launching pad into South East Asia - so here are the ten small pleasures that I've picked as reasons I love being in Korea again.

Korean Photoshop Disaster #8: The 100% Korean Lady Burger

A photoshop disaster, or a deliberate satire of the way models are typically presented on women’s magazine covers?

Alas, given how difficult it is to find this particular version, then unfortunately probably the former. But with that face held fast between the “A” and the “D”, as if prepped for cosmetic surgery? That X-line? And especially that emaciated look of her skin? Then for her at least, Lotteria’s Hanwoo Lady Burger is a “must eat” indeed.

Another Year and What We're Eating

The new year came and went without much ado. I heard a guy on TV recently say "On New Year's Eve, no one really knows what to do apart from stay up late." And for our case at least, I'd have to agree. Heather and I felt like doing something special, but it was really cold and we had to wake up early. So we were fast asleep by 11:30pm, which was the first time I'd slept through the countdown in probably 20 years.

Is this the dawn of our middle-age?
