The 30-Day Reflective Blogging Challenge for Teachers

Today I stumbled across this fantastic website: teachthought.com. While it only offers a few articles specific to ESL teachers, the rest of the content is still very applicable in some way or another!

What Can You Do?

This is one of those positivity posts you happen upon across the blogosphere. Don’t worry though, I’m not going to tell you how to change your life. It’s one I’m hoping you’ll read and decide to post your own appropriate response.

Archiving

Over the past couple of weeks I have been busy going through old photographs from travels long since finished and uploading the to my flickrpage.

Letter from Korea, October 2013

Suwon, Korea
Ocotober, 2013

Dear Ireland,

It has been well over a month since myself, Herself, and +1 have been back in Korea, and what I expected would be my September letter got left by the wayside and is only being seen to now in October. You know you’ll get the usual excuses for not doing anything which isn’t vital to one’s survival, such as being busy with things which are vital to one’s own survival.

After two and a bit months in Ireland, returning to Korea for life, work, and more life, was less the shock we had thought it might be. A smaller home, no garden, no dog, less rain, and that view from all the way up at the top of our tower just seemed to be what was right at the time. There seems to be less culture shock the more we travel between Ireland and Korea.

Most Used Teaching Websites for ESL

We will be posting our Monday video a little bit late today, so instead I’ve decided to share some teaching resources with you! If you have anything you think I should add, or if you have any questions about these resources, feel free to ask in the comments! :)

I teach Kindergarten and 3rd – 6th grade at a public elementary school. There are about 5 or 6 textbooks in circulation currently in Korea, and my school uses the books from YBM and YBM Si-sa.

Makgeolli Making Class Success

We spent last Saturday up to our elbows in rice, water, and nuruk, all in the name of makgeolli brewing education.  The good people at Susubori Academy and expat Brewers Becca Baldwin & Dan Lenaghan walked us through the ins and outs of fermentation, and our Mamas & Papas relished every minute.

Excited to Attend Seattle University

About a year ago people would ask me if I was going to stay in Korea for the rest of my life. My typical response was something like, "Unless I can figure something out to do back home, Korea is my home for now." I really didn't think about going back home and heading to graduate school. But as we all know my mind changed and I'm heading to be a student again.

Letter from Korea, May 2011

Suwon, South Korea
24/5/2011

 Dear Ireland,

The summer is upon us. Of course we all have different ideas of what the summer is. For me, it’s the holidays. This June, I will be working through my summer holidays but don’t worry; I have two months of holidays so working through them isn’t as big a catastrophe as it might sound. This summer I will be in Dublin (What of the letter from Korea?  Well perhaps I’ll compromise). Every summer Dublin fills with Europeans students who come to study English. This summer will be no different. I make a living out of this.
