Smartphone Perspectives

Not so long back a blog post by photographer John Steele on the pros of using a smart phone for taking photographs turned up in my timeline.

Rando Man

The photo below does not inspire much, I imagine. It is in many respects quite depressing. A dry and slightly burnt piece of toast, a cold strip of streaky bacon, and the end of a rather watery looking class of orange juice, all wrapped around a white circular border. It is, other than the leftovers from my breakfast, a pitifully ordinary scene worth no moment of fame in any media. It is not artistic, so don’t go thinking it is. The loose crumb is only a loose crumb, the juice was as I left it, as was the toast and bacon. Just to the right was a eggy plate and a mug with a thin brown layer of leftover coffee. The photo was entirely random. So why bother?

iPhone 5 locked to SK no Olleh?

According to this Apple website document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 the new iPhone 5 will be locked to SK but will be available unlocked through Olleh.

Can anyone confirm this through an SK store?

I think this is strange because prior to the iPhone 5 it was the reverse, I remember the iPhone 4S being unlocked under contract through SK and locked through Olleh.

I need to know because I'm looking to upgrade to the new iPhone but am with SK and want it unlocked for when I travel.

Any help is appreciated

Dublin Pride, June 25 2011

Hanging around in town (Dublin, not Seoul or Suwon) yesterday we stumbled on the Dublin Pride festival. I knew about it but hadn’t registered it until we were on Georges Street.

The biggest thing about the parade, as far as I could see, was the number of participants! It was quite spectacular, at least for me anyway. I have no idea about the number of gays or there rights/problems/social stigmas that are still attached to them. I know that they are definitely more out and about than back in the day, the day being when I was in secondary school or something like that. I found out later that there was around 30,000 people at it – that makes it second to Paddy’s Day in size and importance

Review: i Tour Seoul 2 (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad)

It’s rather rare to see a second version of an app with such marked improvements. After reviewing the first version of the i Tour Seoul / iTourSeoul app, I actually uninstalled it and thought nothing more of it. As the proud owner of a 1st gen iPod Touch and an Android smartphone, I wasn’t interested in an app that required an internet connection to read text.
