The Agony and the Ecstasy of Buying a Car in Korea

As usual, I managed to go for weeks without posting, despite my best intentions. There's something about vacation that just sucks away what little ability I ever had to stick to deadlines or regimes, and suddenly it's been weeks and nothing at all productive has been done, even though I actually have more free time. It's a great mystery of my own personal universe.

In my defense, a lot has been going on. I did manage to buy my car, but not after what were probably the most stressful 48 hours of my life. Buying the car itself was pretty easy, but trying to get insurance...well, the phrase "when it rains, it pours" is pretty accurate here. Okay, story time.

So, I was cutting it pretty close, budget-wise, but I was pretty sure I had everything worked out. I'd heard from various people a ballpark range for insurance for a year, and naturally I divided that over 12 months and figured it was totally doable. That was, of course, where I made my first mistake.

Imported cars in korea

Hi all:-

I am in Gwangju right now. I was really keen to know that how is it to keep an imported car in korea, especially in Gwangju. Many models are common here for instance audi a4, or any bmw. But what im concerned about is, im not in seoul or a real big city, how expensive would it be to keep a 2004~2007 audi or BMW or even a honda civic in terms of routine checkups and maintenance. I can ask for insurance on my own for sure. But I really dont know where to ask about running costs of such cars here in korea. I really dont like hyundai n kia stuff. Kindly help me out. If visiting a Honda/BMW/audi authorized service center/showroom is the only option, then its wayyy expensive for me to keep one.

Looking forward to your replies.....

Being a part of “the system”

Back in the states, one of our first priorities was to get insurance. With this little one growing inside of me, we thought it was pretty important to get coverage.

So, we began with medicaid. On Tuesday, when we arrived back in the states, I submitted the application. Since we are living with family, I had to ask them all sorts of personal information to fill out the forms ex. bills, income, social security etc.
