Sin-Free Stewed Apples

When it’s cold in the evening, there’s nothing better than a warming dessert. Well, actually, perhaps the best thing is a guilt-free warming dessert. I’m a huge fan of apple pie, apple crumble, apple strudel, basically anything apple-flavoured. But, it wouldn’t be too healthy to eat these every night. And let’s face it- the best part of these puddings is the sweet apple filling. So I decided to recreate my favourite apple desserts, minus the unhealthy pastry part.

What was I left with? A completely innocent apple treat, which you can enjoy any night of the week. After all, according to that famous saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away…

Here is the recipe for my sin-free stewed apples. Simple, quick and delicious (I apologize for the lack of photos, I got too excited whilst cooking/ eating to remember to take any).

Across Korea traditional markets are still a common feature. Taking place every five days in towns and even cities, the markets give a brief insight into an older part of Korea. For the most part these markets are straightforward occasions and possibly a bit like you could imagine in the so-called olden days, drawing in all the local populace for not only business but also social reasons.

Throughout you can see people meeting and doing business, while at the same time there is a good quantity of back slapping and hearty laughing by the stalls. There are rows and rows of people, mostly old women it has to be said, selling what is clearly the excess from their small gardens, and for them it seems to be as much a chance to get out and meet people, with the added benefit of actually making some money.


Dear Korea #094 - How Do You Like Them Apples?

 

Happy Monday! I’m sure the majority of you living in Korea might be busy on vacation right now, but for those of you that aren’t, I hope you dig the new comic!

Maybe it’s because it’s hot out, but I’m learning very quickly just how quickly fruit can go bad when it’s out of the fridge. Even when I keep my produce chilled, nothing seems to last very long. Some people have told me that this is because of how organic things are around here. I guess that would make sense, seeing how most of the stuff I buy happens to be from local farmers. Still, it makes things very sad and stinky when I’m gifted with a box of apples that won’t last much longer than a couple of days.


Durian in South Korea

I was walking down the streets of Sorae on Wednesday afternoon and found this truck loaded with durian. It was the first time I’ve seen durian being sold in Korea, so I got excited to take a photo and show it to my husband. Hubby and I are not crazy about this fruit, but I remember our ordeal trying to find one in the Philippines when durian was not in season.

When you live the sort of high profile rockstar diva life that Nicole and I do, its not uncommon to find yourself swarmed with a variety of types that just wanna breathe the same air as you. I know, disgusting. The Importance of RIPE fruit

People are quick to cross fruits off their "lists" because the fruit has given them some of the undesirable  effects listed below. In doing so, they lose potential to reap the benefits of all the nutrients, fiber, and perfect water that that fruit has to offer! 


Has a banana ever made you constipated? Have oranges or kiwis ever given you blisters in your mouth? Chances are you have experienced some side effect of eating un-ripe fruit. My hope in this post is to educate about the importance of fruit being ripe before you eat it. 

Farm Fresh Strawberries in Korea~

This week I was stuck at home with the flu, super fun!  Nara’s Mother was kind enough to send over a huge tray of fresh strawberries and they looked so pretty I just had to snap some photos!

It is really amazing how much better the produce is here in Korea vs the USA~ I will not really get into how genetically modified American fruits and veges in particular are… but when you start shopping here it becomes VERY noticeable just how different things taste and look here VS home.


Simplest Vegan Ice-Cream Ever

Simplest Vegan ‘Ice-Cream’ Ever

All you will need is:

Two large ripe banana’s, peeled and chopped then frozen overnight.

1/2 cup – 3/4 frozen raspberries or blueberries.

Toss them into a strong blender while still frozen and pulse a few times. Pause to scrap down the side and mix up the frozen and blended fruit. You will need a strong arm and patience to get the perfect thick ice-creamy texture.

I like mine in a tall glass with blueberries (for breakfast) or with a slice of vegan cake for desert.
