Enter Miru Kim

I was browsing through Busan Haps when I noticed an article on Miru Kim and her controversial work. I didn’t read what she’s really all about (yet), but what got me interested was her portfolio. Commemorating The Fight for Freedom: The Gwangju Massacre (May 18th)

Today marks the 31st anniversary of the Gwangju Massacre (also commonly referred to as the Gwangju Democratization Movement, 광주민주화운동, Gwanju Uprising, 광주민중항쟁 or 518). On May 18, 1980 several thousands of protesters gathered in the city of Gwangju to protest the dictatorial rule of president Chun Doo Hwan.

Jonathan Franzen on “Freedom” (Video)

Jonathan Franzen confirms my suspicion, that no one should ask an author about his/her work. Still that doesn’t stop him from drawing an analogy from friendship to political freedom. It’s part of the Aristotelian framework, but alien to American traditions.
