Comics and Grub

Amongst the many changes that occur in Seoul, often times a subway station can transform itself. Attached to Line 3's Hongik Station is a transfer route to the AREX (Airport) line. I know this because I was making my way to Exit 5, and had to go through this very clean and polished tunnel.

Friends, Food and Folly

I was able to have this incredible view because a certain somebody (Roboseyo) invited me to a gathering of good friends on Gae-eun Mountain. Getting to the park area was quite a feat as it was nestled atop a very steep mountain road. I have to say that I clearly know how out of shape I am, because of that hill.

Joy in Jeju: Manjanggul

I woke up the next morning ready to go out and have my first adventure on the island. Jeju offers many varieties of things to see and do, and it is as if every part of the island has something on the map. You can choose from kitschy museums like the "Trick Art Museum" or the "Chocolate Museum", but I steered more towards the natural wonders of the island, since I feel this is what made Jeju a unique place to visit. One of these special natural artifacts are lava caves, especially the Manjanggul site.

I will get into the details later, but know that I was very excited for this as I have never been inside a lava-tube cave.

Itaewon's Secret: Discover Some Place New

When you think of Itaewon several images might come to mind. For instance the many pubs or clubs you can go to. Or perhaps, great international restaurants where you can get a taste of food from around the world. But, would you think that somewhere in Itaewon is a quiet cafe street? A place to go see some art and kick back with a cup of tea or coffee? For some time now an area of Itaewon has been growing with galleries, cafes and mini-shops.

Itaewon's Secret: The Video

I am sure there are other secret areas of Itaewon that please the eye too, but this one is literally being made in the moment. There were buildings still under construction as I walked through there. I think this area is going to develop into one that is known for cafes, galleries and cute little shops.

A post with pictures and more thoughts to come, in the meantime give me your reactions to this video. Also if you like it why not share it with your pals, huh?

Hongdae: Board Game Cafe

As you can see I went to Hongdae with a good pal of mine last weekend, and we tromped around the area doing all sorts of fun things. One of those items was visiting a board game cafe that we cam upon randomly. At first I was looking for a cafe to eat some patbingsu, but the rain was coming down really hard.

Samcheongdong Doesn't Get Old

Gallery Imazoo in Gangnam

Last weekend I met up with an associate from Artpoli, who helped me set up something on the website. Afterwards, we took a little tour of a gallery nearby. It is called, "Gallery Imazoo" and has a showroom on the basement floor and a cafe up top.

June Fieldtrip: Bugs and Lizards Oh My!

If you have ever wondered whether Seoul children get out there and play in the dirt or pick at bugs, well look no further. For our school took the first grade to a grand bug adventure up near Namyangju. The kids hopped off the bus all sleepy eyed and were walked into a forested area where they dropped off their bags.

Search for this Summer's Best Patbingsu

One of my most beloved things about the summer is not just that you can walk outside without having to put on a bundle of clothing, but that Korea offers up a great summer treat. I am talking about patbingsu, which is a icey mix of fruits, candies and tteok. There is a standard way to make it with the basic ingredients, however, like coffee in this country, patbingsu is also a competitive item on the menu.

Therefore, just in any neighborhood you can find different versions of this cool treat depending on what shop you stop at. The most popular place to get a fancy patbingsu is at coffeeshops, who will mix them up with ice-cream or espresso. There are also smaller shops that will make them and sometimes you can find them at random restaurants.
