Dear Korea #131

Dear Korea #131

I can’t speak for people living in other cities, but these head sprout things have been all over Gwangju for the past few weeks. From what I can tell, the trend started in China and bled over to South Korea not too long ago. I guess I can see how it’s cute, but all I […]

Dear Korea #127 - Adorably Broke

Dear Korea #127

My weakness for cute stuff is so bad,  it’s embarrassing. Five years in Korea has left me with so much junk I’ll never actually need or use. It’s a sickness.

Dear Korea #126 - Quite a Spectacle!

Dear Korea #126

Though I don’t have nearly as much of a problem (probably because I actually like thick framed “nerdy” glasses), my poor guy seems to struggle with what we’ve come to know as  Korean fashion. As an older guy, he’s not really down with whatever’s hip and cool, especially in this country.

Dear Korea #118 - This Looks Shopped...

To those of you that fell for yesterday’s joke, I sincerely apologize. I didn’t think anyone would fall for it. Honestly, do I really seem like the type of person who could do something bad enough to get banned from all of South Korea? Either way, if it helps, I got yelled at quite a bit from close friends in and out of the country who fell for it as well.

Now that the time to prank has passed, here’s the real comic of the week. No pranks in this one, I swear.

Goodbye Korea Giveaway

Cute Korea Giveaway

It's just over a week before I leave Korea, which means only a week for me to buy as much Korean cuteness that I can fit in my suitcase. Because of this I'm doing my second giveaway.

The prize is a mystery hamper stuffed with some of my favourite Korean gifts. You can see some of them in my post on Tiara's blog here.

There are lots of ways that you can join in with the giveaway, just take a peek in the box below!

Entry closes at midnight in Korea on the 25th if November. The winner will be selected at random and contacted via email.

Good Luck everyone!

Hanbok Day at the Hagwon!

In the last post we highlighted the Chuseok gifts given to Evan by his students at the hagwon. For the Chuseok holiday Evan’s hagwon also had a day where the students and teachers all wear hanbok(traditional Korean clothes) and play traditional Korean games! This is a really common event at hagwons, but don’t expect any events like this at public school! (Unless you work at a really small school)

As Evan mentions in the video, this is a great example of a (one of the few) positives to having a private school job. You often get to participate in fun events, holiday parties, and get more one on one interaction with students than you do at at public school.

Check out Evan in hanbok, and his adorable students in our most recent video! :)

August

Whhaaaat? It's September already? August whizzed by, and took the blooming hot weather with it too. Finally I can stand outside for more than 30 seconds without standing in a puddle of sweat. September also means the imminent arrival of my Mum. She loved Korea so much last year that she's coming again on the 13th of September. Exciting! But while I count down the days, here is what I got up to in the month of August.

Our Weekend: Summer Holidays Round 2

First Day of Vacation
After all the excitement of the weekend, I am spending my first day of my holiday relaxing. I'm currently in my favourite coffee shop in Nampo, The Vintage Cafe, with a berry smoothie. The lady who owns the cafe is so cute and gave me a banana and Nutella sandwich too. I went for a wander into Nampo and walked down the art street for the first time since I've been here. Also trying the matching lipstick and dress look. Not sure if it's orange overload.

Korean Make up Trash, Treat or Stash: Hello Bunny Perfume Bar, Bebe Powder

Trash, Treat or Stash. The Korean make-up products I've discovered are better off in the bin, the ones you should treat yourself to every now and again, and the ones that are so good that you should definitely make sure you have a stash of them.

Tony Moly Hello Bunny Perfume Bar
This was an impulse buy I made at the airport before going to Beijing. I only took hand luggage with me, so I wasn't able to take any perfume. The airport was really impressively fast at checking me in and getting me to the gate, so with lots of time to kill I decided to go and look for something to make me smell better after lots of travelling. This product seemed like the perfect option...
