Anish Kapoor: Leeum Samsung Museum of Art

A mirror only reflects, it doesn't retain the image forever. However, Anish Kapoor's "Vertigo V & VII" made of stainless steel, do more than just reflect. They shift, morph and construe the simple view of yourself and surroundings into mind-boggling size and shape.

Still going to pick up the brush

Yesterday, while I was working through separating stuff I am going to take home and stuff I am getting rid of, I felt the need to pick up my paintbrush. Since this summer I haven't really done my art and knew a part of me was aching. So I got on the map system and found this image on a street corner. I liked the shape of the buildings and the dirty drippings from the windows.

Letter From Korea, August 2012

Suwon
August 24, 2012

Dear Ireland

I’ve been kicking myself a little lately because even with so much free time on my hands, I don’t seem to be getting the same amount of work done that I would like to be getting done. In a recent post I ranted about having too many distractions and found it difficult to scratch things off my list. Things have gotten a little better – I think – and maybe it was the rant that allowed me to get much off my chest. Still productivity, or lack of, bothers me still.

New Postcard Series

After that trip to the Korea Design Museum, I was inspired to make some new works. I took away the red outline from some of the postcards I saw and went with it. The first one there just going from my imagination then having a swell time creating the vibrant red border.

The Lovers: Life drawing session at Jankura

The recent life drawing session at Jankura art space involved a male and female model with the theme as "Lovers." It was a fun mix up of the usual life drawing session, and my first time getting to draw a male model at Jankura. I had a good time and tried my best, of course.

Two Models One Stage

Last Saturday, after the Sketch and the City class there was the usual life drawing session from 6 to 8pm. This time, however we were treated to two models. It was an incredible challenge, especially for myself since I already have a problem with getting the whole model on the page.

Nevertheless, it was still a great time.

Jenny's Bread & Hongdae's Streets

As you might have gathered by now I spent a good amount of time in Hongdae recently, and instead of posting everything in one shot I'm breaking things up. In this post, I'm going to take you to one of my favorite lunch spots, Jenny's Bread. I have been to this place several times, and you can catch a 2010 post here and a 2011 post here.

Sketch & The City 2012: Spring Outing

The view: A crowded urban exterior in the place called Itaewon.
The set up: Easel, art pad, watercolor pencils...

Alternative Space Loop: Contemporary Art Space in Hongdae

With a name like "Alternative Space LOOP" and a location tucked in one of the neighborhood streets of Hongdae, I couldn't help but be enticed to visit. It was a little tricky to find (directions at the end of the post), but with a bit of map viewing beforehand I was able to find my way.

New Works: Winter 2011 ~ Present

"Market" 2011, Watercolor on paper

The above work is an example of recent works I have made since last winter and up to now. Production of my works have been arguably slow and I'm still trying to find what I'm looking to make. But I've taken off on this urban theme and views from the street.
