Dear Korea #103

Hey readers! Apologies for the late update! If you’re ever curious as to why some strips might be late, be sure to follow this Facebook page for updates and all that other good stuff.

For those of you that may be curious, fish pedicures are pretty much spa treatments where doctor fish (also known as garra rufa) nibble away at dead skin on your feet. Some say it can help with psoriasis, but there hasn’t been any sort of conclusive evidence to confirm nor deny the claim.

Waiting For A Second Chance

Located just southwest of Seoul, Asan Animal Shelter is a no-kill facility that provides refuge for stray, abandoned and abused dogs and cats.

Owned by Mr. Park, the shelter is assisted by volunteers who work to rehabilitate animals and find them homes.

Operation Flying Tom: Approved for Flying

For my flight home I'll be flying Korean Air, which is funny because when I first flew to Korea this was the airline I took. Since then I haven't flown Korean Air again and certainly miss their good meals and excellent service. I picked this airline because I figured for the price and prestige, Tom will have a good flight. Thankfully the wind will be blowing towards America, so our flight will be about 9 hours.

Some fun time around Konkuk University

Even though my time is ticking away here in Korea I still hope to spend it with friends and exploring around town. I met up with a new friend last Sunday to enjoy an early movie, lunch and just looking around the Konkuk University area.

Ancient Cities: Tikal

We were woken minutes from Tikal to the screams of ‘Monkey!’. A man, who we later found to be an employable tour guide, was frantically jumping around, wildly gesticulating and shouting excitedly at us from the front of the bus. As we waited for his next animal impression, ahead of us a family of howler monkeys were crossing the road. The five furry mammals were marching in unison with their long black tails tucked in a tight spiral. The driver slowed down so as not to disturb them and we watched in wonder as they disappeared one by one from view into the thick jungle.

We ditched the poor charades player at the first opportunity as he was demanding more than we were willing to pay for his services. Leaving him to entertain the other guests we set off on our own.

Soswaewon Garden (소쇄원)

On my second day in the lush green city of Damyang I decided to head into the mountains to see the Soswaewon garden. Somewhat of a famous landmark and I figured I would try and venture around beyond the city limits.

Cat Cafe: Ycat (previously known as Gio Cat)

Changgyeongung Palace: A small oasis in the city

Although I've been living near the Hyehwa area for over a year now, it never really occurred to me to visit the place. Until recently, when I discovered that this area is greatly known for it's theaters and also has a palace nearby.
