Andalusian Cycling, Summer and Autumn 2015

La Carreterra de la Cabra 3

After my summer travels in Europe I had a little free time before I began the academic year and what follows is a list of some of the more enjoyable cycle rides that I found myself doing as I prepared myself for work again and some that I have managed to squeeze in on my days off since I have returned to work.

Central Europe: Prague, Czech Republic

I’ve been so preoccupied with getting my head around my classes at work for this new academic year that I have slightly neglected my writing from my summer travels. Fortunately I have only one more entry to make, and judging by how much time has lapsed and the minuscule notes I might not be able to give the full picture!

Vlog Entry #22: Get Wet, Go Wild

Drift with me through the streets, hillsides and waters of northern Vietnam on the “Get Wet, Go Wild” tour, offered by Vietnam Backpacker Hostels! Catch a glimpse of Hanoi’s top attractions: Quan Thanh Temple, St. Joseph’s Cathedral and the West Lake. Then hop on board a junk boat to cruise past the cliffs of Ha Long Bay. Throw in a bit of swimming, kayaking, rock climbing and beach volleyball for good measure. Lastly, journey inland to the rural Mai Chau Valley, home to breath-taking, emerald rice paddies and towering, dramatic peaks.

Central Europe: Vienna, Austria

0. CoverHaving boarded the cross-border train from Budapest to Vienna I settled into the book that I had been picking up in bad weather moments and tedious flights. Train journeys are usually quite calm but this one had the added excitement of an unscheduled stop at the Austrian border to allow border patrol guards on. Although no one was ejected from the train they methodically worked their way through the carriages checking people’s passports and credentials, a gradual accumulation of ‘illegal’ refugees and migrants grew between the border patrol guards as they moved along the train.

7 Reasons Why Malaysia Is Awesome

If you haven’t been to Malaysia yet, you’re doing it wrong. “It” being anything from adventure activities, lounging at the beach, appreciating architecture and history, eating foreign cuisine, and/or experiencing cultural diversity. One of the most underrated travel destinations in Southeast Asia, this place has it all! Below are 6 reasons why Malaysia should be next on your traveler’s bucket list.

Vlog Entry #21: Amazing Malaysia

This video takes you along with me through the streets and waters of Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Langkawi and Penang! Special thanks to my Malaysian friends and hosts: Kristy, Edwin, KT, Denise, Amanda and Marcus. My trip wouldn’t have been nearly as amazing without you!

Eastern Europe: Athens, Greece

Eastern Europe: Sofia, Bulgaria

Title Pic Vitosha panorama

As soon as I finished my final summer intensive class the first thing I did was jump onto Skyscanner, type Malaga to ‘Everywhere’ and looked at my cheapest European flight options. The first country that came up, which I hadn’t of course been to already, was Bulgaria. Possibly not everyone’s traditional idea of a holiday destination but certainly, at least to me, a location that fulfilled the requisite of being unknown and having the potential for adventure. Tickets booked, I found myself a few days later on a plane to Sofia.

Vlog Entry #20: One EPIK Year in Review

Tomorrow marks my last day as an English teacher with EPIK. Without a doubt, this year was full of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced, but also the greatest adventures and people. As Avicii says in this video’s song: “All this time I was finding myself, and I didn’t know I was lost.”

Vlog Entry #19: The Countdown Begins

In just 34 days, my time in Korea will have officially come to a close! As part of the countdown, you’re invited to submit any and all questions you have about my experience this year! It can be related to teaching, traveling, living in Korea or anything else…within reason. Write in the comments section below and each day I’ll answer one question!
