A Trip To Europe

History is what it is.  I don’t dwell on the past. I do examine, and learn from it to the best of my abilities.

If you haven’t noticed by the picture, I’m going to talk about the Korean dispersion into Germany.

As an interesting fact, though, most people think Australia is all about Crocodile Dundy, Steve Irwin, kangaroos, and the outback.  Well, don’t forget, there are a lot of Germans in Australia, A LOT.  I’ve seen so many Germans in Australia that I actually can recognize the REAL English German accent.  The American movies have got it all wrong.

In any respect, off to Deutschland! (Germany in German). ✈ ✈ ✈

Los Angeles and Me

Being grown and bred from LA, I was exposed to gangsters, hippies, drugs, etc.  America’s good at exposing these things and frankly, I loved it.  Because it definitely has made me who I am today.

The first time I heard California Girls by Katy Perry somewhere in Seoul, I started screaming out of joy and started dancing!  It’s just something CA girls do, and I know other girls do it to.

Throughout my time in college, I was an environmentally conscious person, smoked weed, wore no shoes to class, and embraced being a lover of all things.  I bought some decals and cut out huge peace symbols and stuck them on my car.

I remember smoking weed with a friend while we were sitting on the grass out of an apple.

The Maoul Bus*

I walked up and down the street looking for the bus stop on the opposite side of the street. Where I was going was only four stops away in that direction, but I soon realised that the bus only went in the opposite direction, which left me a good fifteen stops away. I bit the […]

If you've wondered why kids have bite, it's because of the gators.

Secret Garden

Secret Garden

The original for this one was horrible. Even the tonemap couldn't save it. The colors were just too drab.. the overcast sky that day didn't do much for the colors. So I made a composite, blending another shot to fill in the empty white sky, and I added some texture to even out the tones.

What you see here is Biwon (also called "Huwon"), the "secret garden" that is part of Changdeokgung. Korean architecture is known for its beautiful harmony with the natural environment, and this garden, with its reflecting pool and pine, is an excellent example of earth unified with sky and water. Take a walk around this pool and snap your camera. You will find that the sky aligns symmetrically with its reflection in the water.

Remembering Tradition

Remembering Tradition

You are looking at Jeongjeon, part of the main complex of Jongmyo shrine, which houses the memorial tablets of Korea's kings and queens from the Joseon Dynasty. This shrine and its annexes were added to UNESCO's list of world heritage sites in 1995.Ceremonial rites (Jongmyo jerye) commemorating the deceased are held at this shrine on the first Sunday of May every year. The rites were derived and reconstructed from traditional rituals, and also are included in UNESCO's list of intangible heritage (Wikipedia).

Here, I wanted a full view of the complex and, again, my Japanese friends in tourism unashamedly put themselves in front of my camera. The woman taking the picture is standing on a pathway that is part of a memorial procession. The walkway is divided into three sections, the middle raised and two lower parts on either side. If I remember correctly the raised middle portion is reserved for the royalty (tablet) and on either side are the living who conduct the ceremonies. There is a whole network of these paths that run throughout the shrine complex. I can imagine the rites and the people marching when I look at these walkways.
