Saturday night, I went to Blood G in Jongno with a friend. We had read about it on Discovering Korea's Seoul’s 12 Best Gay Bars in Jongno. I have to say I was a bit disappointed.

Sometimes I make excuses...

Today I just realized that I get most of my internet WORK done while I'm at school (working).
I do it on breaks, or at lunch. Today during lunch, I updated my Linked In and Instagram pages.
Why don't I think to do these things AT HOME?

After racking my brain, I came to 2 conclusions:

ONE: I HATE my desk chair in my home office. Terrible excuse, right? Well- it's tiny and NOT COMFORTABLE and I can't sit "Indian Style" in it. I seem to always be sitting "Indian Style" in chairs lately- it makes me feel more comfortable.

Spring is all about flowers in Korea. The weather is warm with a pleasant cold tinge, birds are back and the flowers are in full bloom in myriad colors! Perfect time to walk with friends in a field of tulips or hand in hand with the loved one under the cherry blossoms or to click away at the gorgeous blooms with yourself in between. Goyang Horticultural Festival is one beautiful place to do just all of that!

Located close to the Ilsan lake, about an hour's ride on the subway from Itaewon, Seoul, is the Goyang festival. The subway station to look out for is Jeongbalsan on the orange line bound for Daehwa. The horticultural festival, with all the white tents can be easily spotted from the exit 1 and is around 5-10minutes walk from the station.

While I love to write, and it’s what I did as a paid profession over much of a decade, sometimes a picture can tell a better, more complete story than any words–the return to Korea and one of the first sights at the airport, the sunrise, soft amidst a misty sky, a giant wooden penis and man dressed like a soju bottle.

If it's a vacation day - I'll take it. This past weekend Korea celebrated Buddha's birthday and with it came a day off from school. Many people in Korea use the day to visit temples to pay homage to the figure, give donations, and say prayers.

Smells Like Preteen Spirit

Spring is in the air. So are hormones.

Seemingly overnight, my 6th graders have transformed from hilarious, intelligent, focused young boys and girls into.. dun dun dun.. PRETEENS. There are hormones everywhere. Oh god, the hormones. I swear I'm going to start breaking out just from being in their presence.

Today is a perfect example. I made the 6th graders a new seating chart (at their request, I might add) and implemented it today. I know them well enough to be able to seat them by ability, putting the strongest students next to a weaker student so the weaker gets help and the stronger gets to reenforce his/her knowledge through teaching. I also always sit them boy-girl, because after the initial awkwardness it usually serves to balance the room out and keep anybody from getting into too much trouble.
